The Malay Archipelago is located on the lithospheric plate section between the mainland and the ocean in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is known for its unfavorable seismic environment. That is why there are so many active and dormant volcanoes in the Philippines (more than 30) and the mountainous relief prevails. One of the highest peaks (Apo volcano 2954m) is located on the island of Mindanao. Local residents have long been accustomed to earthquakes and landslides.

The Philippine Trench, which stretches off the coast of the island of Mindanao, is the deepest not only in the Pacific Ocean, but also in the world. Its depth is about 11 thousand meters.

The climate in the Philippines is mainly tropical, in places subequatorial and monsoon. The temperature on the coast is from 25 to 28 degrees, slightly cooler in the highlands. It rains from May to November in the Philippines. Typhoons periodically occur in the north of the country, and tsunamis are not uncommon here. About half of the Philippines is tropical rainforest.

Such Philippine islands as Borokay, Bohol, Corregior, Mindoro, Palawan, Cebu are rightfully considered the most beautiful on the planet. Almost all of them are surrounded by coral reefs. It is here that lovers of white beaches, surfing and diving come from all over the world.

The unique nature of the Philippines

The Philippines is included in 17 countries of the world, which are distinguished by their mega-diversity of flora and fauna. It is here that most of the discoveries in the world of flora and fauna take place. So, recently in the Philippines, the largest lizard was discovered, its length is about 2 meters; and an unusual plant that eats rats. Pearl mussels live here - molluscs, in which pearls are born.

There are no large mammals on the islands, but macaques, lemurs, fruit bats, small deer, tupayas, civets, more than 450 species of birds and a huge number of reptiles live here.

State of the Philippines

The Philippines is a presidential republic. The population is 70 million people, of which 90% are Malays. Also, ethnic groups such as the Chinese, Spaniards, Americans, Ilocans, Visayans, Moro live on the territory of the state. Filipinos are freedom-loving people, most of them are Catholics (80%), there are also Muslims, Protestants and Buddhists.

The capital and largest city of the Philippines is Manila. It ranks first in the world in terms of population density. This is a picturesque place that brings together a variety of buildings. Slums and wealthy neighborhoods are inextricably linked by a common territory, even the cemetery is home to many living people.

The most developed industrial sectors in the Philippines are: electronics, textiles, chemicals, woodworking. In addition, agriculture plays an important role for the country's economy. The main export product is coconut and various products based on it.
