In the maritime business, echo sounders are used for determining depth, fixing underwater obstacles and sunken ships, as well as for mapping the bottom. Naval sailors use them to detect submarines, surface ships and torpedoes. There are also specialized echo sounders for hobby anglers.
Instructions
Step 1
Do not forget that one of the main advantages of a fish finder for recreational fishing is its compactness and light weight. The cost of such devices can vary from 2 to 150 thousand rubles (depending on the technical characteristics). But the price should not be the main criterion when choosing an echo sounder.
Step 2
Pay attention to the following specifications: transmitter power, high receiver sensitivity, converter reliability, resolution and screen size. Remember that the echo sounder signal will propagate differently in different bodies of water (for example, sound travels more slowly in fresh water than in salt water). And the signal transmission rate directly depends on the power of the transmitter.
Step 3
Choose a sounder with a lot of power. Usually, the higher the power, the more expensive the device is. The wider the radiation angle of the transducer, the larger the area covered by the device. But a wide angle of radiation is ineffective at depth. But the narrow one, on the contrary, reaches the bottom, but acts on a smaller area. Choose a device with the ability to adjust the sensitivity.
Step 4
Look out for dual beam echo sounders. One of them is narrow (measures depth), the second makes the horizon wider. But be prepared for the fact that you will have to pay much more. Buy expensive devices only in specialized stores that are ready to provide you with quality goods and a guarantee.
Step 5
Follow the advice of experienced fishermen and use the fish finder when winter fishing. It is during this time of the year that it can be most effective. In order to use it in winter, it is enough to drill 20 centimeters of ice, fill the resulting hole with water, and lower the device into it. An indispensable echo sounder if you are going to fish in an unfamiliar area. He will show you not only "fish places", but also the bottom topography, as well as the direction of movement of the flock.
