A considerable number of people have to constantly travel between Moscow and St. Petersburg, the communication between the two capitals is quite dense. Someone goes on this short trip for tourist purposes, and someone for work, but both of them have a fairly wide choice of ways to get to the right place.

Step 1
The train is the most common, simple and relatively inexpensive way to get from Moscow to St. Petersburg. Travel time varies from 7 to 12 hours, carriages are very different: from comfortable compartments to reserved seats, and some trains even have seats. There are also special high-speed express trains, the travel time between Moscow and St. Petersburg for which is only about 4 hours. These trains are called "Sapsan", "Krasnaya Arrow" or "Nevsky Express". The problem with rail connections between these cities is that tickets usually sell out rather quickly, and if your trip is unexpected, then you may find that there are no tickets at the box office at all, even for high-speed trains, which are already quite expensive. However, the high-speed train is the fastest way to get from the center of Moscow directly to the center of St. Petersburg.
Step 2
The bus is a fairly inexpensive way to travel between St. Petersburg and Moscow. Buses leave from the Central Bus Station in Moscow, from the bus station on Komsomolskaya Square, from the metro stations "Komsomolskaya" and "Krasnogvardeyskaya". The disadvantages of the bus include the fact that the road will be a little uncomfortable, because the bus has only seats. It also happens that many hours of traffic jams are formed on the road, so the travel time can be unexpectedly lengthened, although it usually ranges from 10 to 12 hours. The advantage of the method is that bus tickets are almost always on sale.
Step 3
You can get from Moscow to St. Petersburg by your own car or by taxi. The distance from the Moscow Ring Road to the Ring Road of St. Petersburg is about 680 km. The route runs along the Leningradskoe highway. Having driven out on it, follow the signs: they are found constantly, it is impossible to get lost. It is best to avoid leaving Moscow on the Leningradskoe Highway on Friday evening, and in general, try not to leave in the evenings of working days, as there is a risk of standing for several hours in a traffic jam. If you leave Moscow in the middle of the day, then the danger may lie in wait for you approximately in the middle of the road: in Vyshny Volochek at a traffic light sometimes the traffic jam is such that you have to stand for an hour or two. The ideal time to leave Moscow with your own car is early morning (6-7 am) or late evening (about 11 pm). Estimated travel time is 8-9 hours if traffic jams are avoided.
Step 4
A fairly quick and convenient option is to use an airplane. It will take about an hour or an hour and a half to fly, and you should also allow time for passing pre-flight control, getting to the airport in Moscow and leaving the airport in St. Petersburg. Flights to St. Petersburg are carried out from all airports of the Moscow air hub. Contrary to popular misconception, airfare is usually not that high, especially when compared to high-speed trains.
