On a trip to the Czech Republic, no one will pass by Prague, and in Prague, no one will pass by the Prague Castle - a historical place: the former residence of the Roman emperor, later the Czech kings, and in modern times - the residence of the President of the Czech Republic.

In fact, this is a huge museum, dominated by the Cathedral of St. Vitus - the pearl of European Gothic. The vast territory of the complex contains luxurious palaces, ancient streets and towers, majestic temples, squares with magnificent sculptures and parks.

Prague Castle: a glorious history

The history of the Prague Castle dates back to the 9th century, when the Přemyslid princes began to build a military fortification on a high cliff in the Slavs settlement. By the 12th century, it was already a real fortress.

Prague Castle owes its modern appearance in many respects to King Charles IV, who in the 14th century launched large-scale construction work here. It was then that the construction of the main attraction - the Cathedral of St. Vitus - began. And it ended at the end of the 20th century, but what a monumental beauty it turned out!

The territory of the complex preserves enormous cultural and historical treasures, because up to the 20th century, everything that could be decorated was built and rebuilt, improved and decorated here. The fashion for architectural styles changed, and new buildings were built in accordance with it. Kings changed, and with it new architects came and brought their ideas into the complex's appearance.

Time has spared this incomparable beauty, and modern tourists can walk for hours along the ancient streets and squares, forgetting that they are already in the 21st century. Hours and even days pass unnoticed here.
