In the rapidly developing resorts of Cambodia, even the most sophisticated traveler will find all the ingredients for a wonderful holiday. The weather here is wonderful all year round (if you do not take into account the wet season), the natural landscapes are unusually beautiful, the beaches are clean, the culture and cuisine are exotic. The prices for food and entertainment are pleasantly surprising, they are even lower here than in neighboring Thailand, while the service remains at a decent level.
Vacation on the beaches of Cambodia
The main resort of Cambodia - Sihanoukville is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 200 km south-west of the capital of the country, Phnom Penh. The resort has 7 large beaches, the most popular among them is Ochutel Beach with many small cafes, bars and souvenir shops. The calmest and quietest beach is Otres, but it is located somewhat outside the city.
Not far from Sihanoukville there are two small islands - Ko Russey and Ko Rong. Both islands offer great snorkelling opportunities. Coral reefs come close to the coast here.
South of Sihanoukville on the border with Vietnam is the second relatively large resort town of Cambodia - Kep. Before Sihanoukville gained its popularity, Kep was the main resting place of the French elite in the country (Cambodia was a French colony for a long time). The town is famous for its local cuisine, crabs are especially good here. Nearby there is a pepper plantation where the best French restaurants are bought.
Cambodia landmarks
Within its present-day borders, Cambodia represents only a small fraction of the once flourishing Khmer Empire in Southeast Asia. The history of Cambodia is rooted in the distant past, it is known that the state arose earlier than 600 AD. You can immerse yourself in the charm of Asian antiquity by visiting the country's main attraction - the imposing Angkor Wat temple complex. It is the largest religious building ever created by human hands. Angkor Wat is part of the capital of the ancient Khmer state - Angkor. The ruins of the ancient city stretch for 24 km along the shores of Lake Tonle Sap.
Cambodia is a land of virgin forests, with 23 national parks. In the immediate vicinity of Sihanoukville, you can observe the local fauna and enjoy the beauty of the tropical flora in the Riem National Park.
