Pay attention to the temperature index indicated on the sleeping bag and denoting the air temperature at which the conditions inside the sleeping bag are kept comfortable for a person. Give preference to a warmer model. If you feel hot while sleeping in a warm bag, you can easily unfasten it. But if you freeze in thin, it will be quite difficult to keep warm.

The design of a sleeping bag can be of two types: a cocoon and a blanket. If you decide to go hiking, go for a cocoon, which is a tapering bag. It is lighter than a blanket and retains heat better. The blanket sleeping bag has a rectangular shape and is intended for easy short trips.
Step 3
The size of the sleeping bag you choose must definitely match your parameters. Choose the length of the bag based on your height plus 20-25cm.
Step 4
The material from which it is made is also important when choosing a sleeping bag. Polartex and padding polyester bags take up a lot of space in a backpack and are quite heavy. Their only plus is their low cost, which is not worth chasing when choosing a sleeping bag.
Step 5
The warmest and lightest are downy sleeping bags. Such a bag will take up minimal space in your backpack and will provide you with a complete rest throughout the night. But if the downy sleeping bag gets wet, it will no longer be able to warm you. And it is almost impossible to dry it in field conditions.
Step 6
Sleeping bags made from synthetic materials are slightly heavier and significantly more expensive than down models. But they are absolutely not afraid of moisture. It is easy to dry a wet sleeping bag near a fire. The thermal performance of down and synthetic sleeping bags is almost the same.
Step 7
Make sure the filling is evenly distributed in the sleeping bag.
Step 8
Pay attention to the zipper of the sleeping bag. A good bag has a large one. The fastener should open and close without jamming, but with some difficulty. Make sure that there is a special strip that covers the zipper and does not allow heat from the sleeping bag to go out through the zipper.
