Serbia is a young independent state that emerged from the former Yugoslavia. Its favorable geographic location, convenient communication routes and the wealth of nature have always attracted travel lovers. There are a lot of unique places here that may be of interest to an ordinary tourist.
Belgrade fortress
The place where Serbia begins - the Belgrade Fortress is located on the top of a hill at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers behind an old fortress wall. Here, on the territory of the Lower and Upper Towns, there are ancient artifacts - the ruins of a Roman settlement, the ruins of a Byzantine castle, churches, artillery sites, outbuildings.
In the military museum, opposite the Istanbul gate, there is a huge collection of weapons, awards and flags, military ammunition and uniforms, and many historical details of the military affairs of Serbia. The National Observatory and the famous Victory Monument are also located here.
Neighborhoods of Belgrade
There are many interesting places in the vicinity of the Serbian capital. Here you will find the old Smederevo fortress with very interesting wells and peculiar architecture, the city of Novi Sad or “local Athens”, and, of course, Subotica - the ancient city of Serbian-Hungarian traditions. While in Serbia, one simply cannot fail to see the Mokra Gora Biological Reserve, on the territory of which Drvengrad is located, created by the world famous film master, Emir Kusturica.
Great Kusturica
While working on the film "Life is a Miracle" in early 2000, Kusturica got the idea of creating a real Serbian village. The film crew worked in the bosom of nature near the picturesque Mechavnik Mountain. Gradually, the director got so used to and fell in love with the unpretentious local landscape that after filming he decided to build an "ethnographic village-hotel" here. Already in 2004, the first visitors arrived in Drvengrad, who were delighted with the local service and everyday life. Here, in one of the wooden houses, Emir Kusturica himself lives, when he comes to unwind in the short moments of his rest.
Streets and squares of Drvengrad are named after celebrities revered by Kusturica - Bergman, Fellini, Tarkovsky, Maradona, Tesla. The most unusual place in the village is the Stanley Kubrick Cinema, which is located underground. It was this project by Emir Kusturica that was awarded the 2005 Philippe Rotier Prize.
Niches
The amazing history of the city of Nis, which, by the will of fate, found itself at the crossroads of Orthodoxy and Islam, between the West and the East, between the cultures of Europe and the Balkans. Here is the birthplace of Emperor Constantine the Great, trade routes of merchants and pilgrims led here, and the history of Serbia was overgrown with myths and legends. The most ancient early Christian crypt of the beginning of the 4th century and the remains of the Church of the Archangel Gaviel became the symbols of Nis.
