Instructions

Step 1

Contact the authorities of the migration service even before the expiration of the visa period, as the consideration of your application can take up to 20 days. Please note that the tourist visa cannot be extended.

Step 2

Submit the necessary documents to the authorities of the migration service confirming your right to extend your visa. This must be an application from an organization (or a work permit) or an application from individuals who invited you to Russia, or the fact that you have a return ticket with a fixed date. Your visa may be extended for a period of no more than 10 days if the total period of your stay in Russia did not exceed 90 days during each half of the year.

Step 3

If circumstances of a humanitarian nature arise (emergency treatment, illness or death of a relative who lives in Russia), extend the visa for the entire period necessary to resolve the circumstances. Submit documents confirming such circumstances to the migration service.

Step 4

Submit documents in case of insurmountable circumstances (for example, natural disasters and other emergencies) in order for your visa to be extended for the period required to leave the Russian Federation.

Step 5

If you live in Russia on a one-year multiple-entry study or work visa, then you can stay in the country for the entire duration of such visas.

Step 6

If you have expired your visa, then you can leave Russia only after the migration service has issued you an exit visa. To do this, submit documents, namely:

- passport with visa;

- 2 photos;

- the return ticket you bought with the date of departure;

- receipts for payment of state duty and fine.

Step 7

If the visa has been expired through no fault of yours, contact the consulate of your country so that, according to their Note, the Russian Foreign Ministry will issue you a Certificate of Return. An exit visa is not required in such cases, but you will be required to leave Russia within 10 days.
