Step 1
The suburbs of St. Petersburg are beautiful. Visit at least one of them, even if you are only visiting for a few days. Many guests of the Northern capital begin their acquaintance with the suburbs from Peterhof. You can get to the "capital of fountains" by train from the Baltic station. You need trains going to Oranienbaum or Kalische. Buses also go to Peterhof mainly from the Avtovo metro station. There are many routes. Any bus on which you see the word "fountains" will suit you.
Buses and minibuses go through Strelna, where there are also many interesting things - the Palace of Congresses, the Traveling Palace of Peter the Great, Orlovsky Park. Some buses (No. 200, 300, 401) go through Peterhof to Oranienbaum and beyond. On them you can get to the city of Lomonosov and see a beautiful old park and several palaces. And in Peterhof itself there are many museums, so you can not be limited to the Lower Park alone.

From the Vitebsk railway station you can go to Pavlovsk and Pushkin. In these suburbs there are magnificent parks, palaces, the famous Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum. To get to Pushkin, you need to get off at the Detskoe Selo station. Pushkin and Pavlovsk can also be reached from the Kupchino station. This is a very convenient option, because from the metro you can immediately get to the railway platform and take the train for just a few stops. Minibuses also go to Pushkin and Pavlovsk. Another must-see suburb is Kronstadt. The easiest way to reach it is by minibuses or buses from the metro stations "Chernaya Rechka" or "Staraya Derevnya". In summer, you can get to Kronstadt by boat.

The closest city to St. Petersburg in the Leningrad Region is Vsevolozhsk. There you can see the old Priyutino estate, the Cat Museum and much more. The best way to get there is by train from Finland Station to Vsevolozhskaya station or by minibus from Ladozhskaya metro station.

From the Baltiyskiy station there are electric trains to Gatchina. Several parks, the Grand Palace, the Priory Palace, and in addition, several old manor complexes in the vicinity. You need to get on the train to the station "Gatchina-Baltiyskaya" or "Luga". There are also minibuses from the Moskovskaya metro station to Gatchina.

If you like old fortresses and castles, you will certainly be interested in cities and villages such as Vyborg, Shlisselburg, Priozersk, Ivangorod and Koporye. To Vyborg, Shlisselburg and Priozersk there are electric trains from Finland Station. You can get to the Vyborg castle and Korela without any problems, and the Shlisselburg fortress is located on an island, with which there is not always a connection even in summer. But usually you can hire a boat ashore.

You can get to Ivangorod by suburban train from the Baltic Station, by Tallinn train. There is also an option with a change - take a minibus from Moskovskaya metro station to Kingisepp, and then change to a regular bus to Ivangorod. To get to Koporye, you need to get to the station "Oranienbaum I", go to the bus station, which is located next to the railway, and get on a minibus or a regular bus to Koporye.

It is convenient to get from St. Petersburg to the neighboring regional centers. Buses from the bus station on the Obvodny Canal, as well as trains, go to Pskov and Novgorod. You can go to Novgorod from the Baltiysky or Moskovsky railway stations, to Pskov - from the Baltic or Vitebsky ones.
