Going on vacation with small children, parents are faced with a problem: how to transport the baby's stroller? This is usually not difficult, but there are still some precautions.
Rules for the carriage of baby strollers
According to the rules governing the carriage of baby strollers by air, they are classified as carry-on baggage. But at the same time, the wheelchair must meet a number of size requirements, which each airline has its own.
If the stroller is large and does not fold, then not only can it not be transported as carry-on luggage, but when you check it in, you will most likely have to pay extra for its non-standard dimensions. It is often cheaper to purchase a small stroller specifically for the holidays than to pay for extra luggage in order to take your usual but oversized stroller.
Consider if another solution might work for you: Many resorts provide comfortable strollers for rent or free of charge from the hotel. This may be more convenient and profitable than transportation.
If you do not need a stroller during your flight, it is best to check it in as checked baggage. Do not forget to purchase a special stroller cover in advance so that it does not get damaged in the aircraft hold. You can also wrap it with a protective film, this service is available at all major airports in the world.
Some airlines categorically do not allow passengers to board a baby carriage, but they provide their own for the duration of the flight.
Care should be taken when claiming baggage. Sometimes baby carriages are handed out not with ordinary suitcases, but in the department of bulky or oversized cargo.
Airline regulations
Be sure to contact the help desk of your airline to clarify the rules for the carriage of wheelchairs with them. The point is that these rules are very different. Just in case, even if the tour operator assures you that everything is in order, check with the airline yourself: a mistake can result in additional stress and the need to pay for oversized baggage.
For example, according to official information, Aeroflot requires that all strollers (even folding "walking sticks") be carried in the luggage compartment. No additional payment will be charged to the passenger for this. The stroller can be checked in just before boarding, since during check-in it is marked in a special way: it receives a Delivery at aircraft sticker. They will also return the stroller immediately upon arrival, without waiting for baggage claim.
Transaero allows the carriage of folding strollers, walking sticks and cradles in the passenger compartment. All other types of strollers must be checked in checked baggage.
If you fly with a low-cost airline, then, as a rule, you have to pay for a stroller. There are exceptions, though.
