The centuries-old history of Dubrovnik has made the city a favorite destination for many tourists. What mysteries does this pearl of the Adriatic keep, what attracts and attracts curious guests?
Acquaintance with the city begins with the fortress wall, or rather the walls. They began to be erected in the 10th century. Each ruler contributed to the creation of a unique ensemble. 2 kilometers in length, impressive width - 6 meters: it would be difficult for the enemy to get into the city protected by such a wall. And the city could not do without such protection: a trading power that receives a huge number of visitors from all over the world. Of course, the wall did not stop the guests, because the Pile Gate was opened for them. They were built in the 15th century. They are adorned with the figure of Saint Vlach - he is the patron saint of the city.
The next attraction is Stradun. This is the main street of the city. The wealth of merchants made it possible to make it obscenely wide for those times, because the land was expensive, and not every city could afford such excesses. The street is ideal for walking: cafes, restaurants, architectural beauty. You can close your eyes over a cup of coffee and move your thoughts into the past, hear how merchants discuss their deals.
The Franciscan monastery is also worth visiting. It is interesting in itself, as well as the fact that a medieval pharmacy with alembics and various retorts has been preserved on its territory.

This is evidenced by the water supply system dating back to the XIV century, through which the purest water from the rivers flowed into the city. They did not spare water, they even created a huge fountain almost 2 stories high. A large fountain called Onofrio can be seen in the city center. If there is a large fountain, it means that the Small fountain is lost somewhere, and more specifically, in the main square of old Dubrovnik. It is called, by the way, in Croatian language Luza, and sometimes you can hear Luzha. Just don't think that the name is associated with rain and water. Luza is a niche in which in ancient times a special bell was installed, which served as an alarm. He was assigned an important role - to notify the population about alarming events (fires, floods, enemy raids). But it could not do without joyful ringing, especially during church holidays or visits of important persons. Once upon a time the bell had a chance to announce the arrival of the well-known Richard the Lionheart - the legendary knight and king.
The next interesting object is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. According to legend, Richard laid it again as gratitude for the salvation during a shipwreck. The cathedral was built much later, and the best masters, including those from Italy, were engaged in its painting. The interior decoration is amazing - beauty in every brush stroke.
