Crane Rodina is a nature reserve located in Taldomsky and Sergiev Posad districts, not far from Moscow. This is an amazing place with impenetrable forests, fields and swamps, many birds and animals. It got its name thanks to the famous writer M. M. Prishvin.

"Crane Homeland" is not a nursery or a farm, it is wild nature, a protected area, where excursions are held under the strict supervision of employees. Agronomists, scientists, foresters work on the territory of the reserve, volunteers and students help them. The Nature Conservation Force of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University was organized.

History and description of the reserve

The official history of the reserve began in 1979, when the Nature Conservation Druzhina of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University created the first reserve in this region. But the values of these places became known much earlier. At the end of the 19th century, A. F. Flerov, a famous swamp expert, a scientist who made a huge contribution to the study of this region, came to the swamps.

However, at the beginning of the 20th century, the development of peat deposits of the region began, as a result, the wild nature was in danger. The poet S. A. Klychkov and writer M. M. Prishvin. It was they who managed to attract the public and protect the beautiful places from death.

The reserve is home to 254 bird species, 18 of them are listed in the Red Book of Russia and 63 - in the Red Book of the Moscow Region. In these parts you can see not only cranes, but also storks, ducks, swans, waders, snowy owls, geese. Elk, roe deer, wild boars, bison, deer, bears, badgers, lynxes, wolves and minks live on the territory of the Dubna lowland. The area of the reserve is more than 36 thousand hectares.

There are many rules and restrictions on the territory of the reserve that help preserve wildlife. Firstly, you cannot visit these places unaccompanied from April 15 to October 1, pick berries and mushrooms, and hunt until November 1. During the excursions, photographs and video recordings are prohibited. Bird watching in organized groups takes place from 2 to 27 September. To do this, you must definitely call the reserve in advance and agree on the exact time. It is also important to remember that you need to come by your own transport or order in the reserve, since in order to look at the cranes, you will have to travel about 15 km from the biological station. You should check the opening hours and the schedule of excursions in advance in the reserve.

You can also walk along the paths of M. M. Prishvin, see hundreds of cranes going to warm lands, moss swamps, cranberries, visit the M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, the historical and literary museum and the house-museum of S. A. Klychkov.

In "Crane Rodina" not only guided tours are conducted, but also scientific and environmental work, seminars and conferences are held. Every year in September, the "Festival of the Crane" is opened - a holiday with a rich program, interesting for adults and children. At this time, conferences, master classes, concerts of folk groups, lectures, etc. are held. Not far from the reserve there are hotels "Heliopark" and "Lepota", where you can relax, go horseback riding, play paintball, take a dip in the pool, etc. You can also visit the Vozrozhdenie farm and the Orlov horse base.

How to get to the "Crane Motherland"?

To see this attraction, first you need to get to Dmitrov, and then to Taldom along the P-112 highway, then follow the Yurkinskoye highway to the village of Kalinkino. At the turn, turn left and after 2, 5 km there will be a nature reserve.

The collection of all excursion groups is carried out at the biological station. Her exact address: Dmitrovka village, Taldomsky district, Moscow region. This is the penultimate house on the left side.

This place can also be reached by train from the Savelovsky railway station. First, go by train and get off at the Taldom station, change to bus number 34 and get to Dmitrovka, walk 10 minutes to the Zhuravlinnaya Rodina biological station. Also, from the Savyolovskaya metro station, you can take bus number 310 and get to the Taldom bus station, and from there to the biological station.
