Vorkuta is a settlement in the Komi Republic, located beyond the Arctic Circle. In the period from 1930 to the 1980s, this city was a place of exile for prisoners, at the moment the life of the settlement is entirely dependent on the city-forming enterprise engaged in coal mining.

The easiest way to get to Vorkuta is by train. The local train station is the terminus of 22 trains. The city has direct rail links with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Simferopol, Adler, Novorossiysk, Kirov, Labytnangi, Evpatoria and Pechora. You can get from Moscow to Vorkuta using trains # 042, 208, 376 on the Moscow-Vorkuta route, the fastest of which is # 042, it covers the distance between the two cities in 40 hours. There is no suburban service at Vorkuta station.
Step 2
You can also get to Vorkuta by plane, however, air traffic in the region is not very developed. At the moment, this settlement can be reached from Moscow (Domodedovo), Cherepovets, St. Petersburg and Syktyvkar. You can get from the capital to Vorkuta in just three hours; flights are carried out on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The average cost of a ticket for a Moscow-Vorkuta flight is 12,500 rubles.
Step 3
Owners of their own cars will not be able to get directly to Vorkuta, alas, since there is no direct road to this city. Usually, vehicle owners drive to Sosnogorsk (Ukhta), located 680 kilometers from Vorkuta, then load their cars onto railway platforms, which go to this settlement and go there by train. You can get to Ukhta along the federal highway "P25" "Syktyvkar-Ukhta".
Step 4
In 2010, the construction of a gas pipeline began on the Yamal Peninsula, which required the creation of a road connection between Ukhta and Vorkuta. As a result, a winter road was built, but it can be used with only specialized off-road equipment. The winter road is used from late November to early March, depending on the weather conditions in the region.
