Kerch is one of the most picturesque cities on the Crimean coast. Unremarkable at first glance, upon closer acquaintance, the city does not leave anyone indifferent!
The first thing that strikes in Kerch is amazingly clean air. Dry and hot, very special - with a light taste of the sea and the sun, with the sound of the surf and the cries of seagulls, seasoned with the songs of dolphins and the taste of fried mussels.
The city is unique - the location at the junction of two seas allows you to visit the Azov and Black Seas for several hours: splash in the waves after the mud baths of the Chokrak Lake on Azov, and then visit the magnificent Black Sea bays near the Opuk reserve.
The length of the city along the sea is 42 kilometers. A whole day is not enough to drive through the entire city - the coastline is densely dotted with the remains of ancient cities, monuments of the Great Patriotic War, monuments and interesting objects.
In Kerch, you should definitely visit many places:
- Tsarsky burial mound. Located in the village of Adzhi-Mushkai. The burial is dated to the 5th century. It is unique - such structures are no longer known to the scientific community.
- Panticapaeum. The ancient Greek city of Panticapaeum is located in the very heart of Kerch - on the 92-meter Mithridates mountain in the city center. The ruins of the old city with the remains of the fortress walls, stonework and majestic columns evoke thoughts of eternity.
- Yeni-Kale. The ancient Turkish fortress, the ruins of which have survived to this day, has lost its military significance over time, but has become a remarkable place for tourists. The towers of the fortress offer a magnificent view of the strait and the port of Crimea.
- The ancient city of Nympheus, the settlements of Tiritaka and Mirmeki. Kerch has a rich history - for more than 2,600 years, residents have come and gone to the city. Their way of life, architecture of houses, way of life is investigated by numerous archaeological groups, whose work can also be observed.
- Adzhimushkay quarries. The history of Kerch during the Second World War is filled with heroic deeds of its defenders. Thanks to the huge sacrifice made by the partisans, the city still stands on the seashore. Everyone should visit the majestic memorial in order to feel the spirit and history.
- Kerch Historical Museum and Lapidarium. The museum is rightfully considered one of the oldest museums in Crimea. Founded in 1826, it is still being replenished with unique exhibits, and some antiquities assigned to the Kerch Museum are exhibited in the Hermitage.
Kerch is unique and diverse! And to feel all the uniqueness of the city, you just have to walk around the city, lie down behind the sandy beaches, go to the market and choose a fish.
