Today Bulgaria has ceased to be associated exclusively with beach vacations; for the last ten years, ski tourism has been actively developing in this country. At the same time, holidays in the ski resorts of Bulgaria will cost much less than, say, in France, Austria or Switzerland, and the variety of tracks and the quality of customer service is in no way inferior to prestigious European resorts.
Bansko resort
The Bansko ski resort is located in the southeastern part of the country in the Pirin mountain ranges. Here tourists will find ski slopes of any complexity with a total length of 56 km, located at an altitude of 950 to 2525 m.
Bansko has the longest ski season in Bulgaria, which starts in early December and ends in mid-April. Climatic conditions favor a stable snow cover reaching 2 meters thickness. In case of insufficient precipitation, the technical condition of the tracks is supported by modern snow cannons.
The ski slopes of Bansko are equipped with modern lifts that can serve up to 3 thousand people per hour. Russian-speaking tourists can use the services of professional ski instructors.
The list of comfortable hotels and private apartments for holidaymakers is quite impressive, which makes it possible to find both inexpensive and luxury accommodation options.
The resort of Bansko is not only a modern ski center with hotels and boarding houses, but also a picturesque town with old buildings, cozy mountain restaurants and many shops selling sportswear and equipment.
Borovets resort
Geographically, Borovets resort is located on the northern slopes of the picturesque Rila Mountains at the foot of Musala Peak - the highest point on the Balkan Peninsula.
Borovets is the oldest and most prestigious ski resort in Bulgaria with excellent slopes of any difficulty level, modern lifts, a high-tech snow production system and a developed infrastructure. The total length of the ski slopes is about 43 km, located at an altitude of 1300 to 2650 m, and includes three ski areas - Sitnyako-Martinovibaraki, Yastrebets, Markudzhik.
Borovets is surrounded by a coniferous forest, so the air here is unusually clean and fresh. Winter in this region is characterized by mild climatic conditions with heavy snowfalls - in the coldest months the temperature does not drop below 5 degrees. Snow cover on the ski slopes lasts from December to April.
In Borovets, there is a large number of hotels and cottage complexes with varying degrees of stardom, located just a few minutes' walk from the ski lifts.
Pamporovo resort
Pamporovo is the warmest and sunniest ski resort in Bulgaria, located in the very center of the Rhodope Mountains at the foot of Mount Snezhanka, the highest point of which is at 1929 m.
The location of the resort near the Aegean Sea contributes to a mild winter climate with heavy snowfalls, which guarantees excellent skiing from mid-December to early April. The total length of the ski slopes is approximately 20 km.
Gentle snow slopes make the Pamporovo resort a great place for those who are just starting their acquaintance with skiing. For more experienced skiers, there are also four special slopes (“black slopes”) and one giant slalom.
The Pamporovo resort has a large number of cozy hotels, many nightclubs and Bulgarian taverns.
