Nizhne-Kayancha Altai Territory, and "Altai Valley", with. Manzherok, Rep. Altai.

History

From time immemorial, the Chuisky tract aroused awe among the locals. The fact is that the federal asphalt highway was built for ten years practically on bones. And she passed right along the road along which the trade route had followed for three thousand years. For centuries, loaded caravans with exotic goods from Asia followed it to Siberia and even to Europe. Enemies also penetrated the territory of Altai along the same path.

When it was decided to build an official road here, thousands of convicts were taken to it. The exiles, who for the most part were intellectual employees, but were arrested for counter-revolutionary activities, died of slave labor and exhaustion right on the construction site. And in 1920 there was an epidemic of cholera, and hundreds of deceased convicts instead of being buried "deserved" to be buried under rubble, along which the legendary Chuysky tract was laid.

The conditions of detention of the prisoners were unbearable, and in 1921 the hard labor workers of the Ulagan settlement went to a protest uprising. The army mercilessly shot the rebels right at the construction site. More than fifty corpses were again laid under the Chuisky tract. It is because of these bloody events that the road is often called "bloody" and is treated with respect and awe.

On May 26, 1922, the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the RSFSR decided that the Chuisky tract is a tract of state significance.
