Step 1
Moving and obtaining a temporary or permanent residence permit in Latvia (with the subsequent acquisition of citizenship) is possible when opening your own company in this country or when buying real estate. Unfortunately, from 1.09.2014, in order to obtain a residence permit, you must purchase real estate for at least 250,000 euros. A temporary residence permit provides free movement in the Schengen countries, and also makes it possible to apply for further permanent residence and obtain citizenship.
Step 2
Opening a company or enterprise in Latvia is the most common, but far from the most budgetary way to move to the country. The minimum share capital is 36,000 euros. On the other hand, the opening of a limited liability company in Latvia will take no more than a week. After collecting financial documents, you must submit them together with an application for a residence permit directly in the Republic of Latvia (consulates and embassies of Latvia in Russia do not issue a residence permit, limiting themselves to visas). The time for consideration of documents depends on the workload of the employees of the department and is no more than 2 months.
Step 3
The second popular way to obtain a residence permit in Latvia is to buy real estate. Until 2014-01-09, the minimum value of real estate, after the purchase of which you can apply for a residence permit, was 72,000 euros, but now the minimum is 250,000 euros. Having drawn up a transaction for the sale and purchase of real estate, you must submit documents and an application for a residence permit. The list of documents is small: papers for ownership, certificates certifying the absence of debts on utility bills, documents on the absence of a criminal record (translated and certified by a Latvian notary), bank statements on the availability of funds in the accounts, medical insurance policy (for 1 year), receipts for payment of all necessary government fees. With the correct execution of all documents, a temporary residence permit in Latvia will be issued in 2 months. The residence permit is renewed every year. It will be possible to sell the purchased property only 5 years after the date of purchase.
Step 4
In addition, there are alternative options for moving to Latvia. First, marriage with a citizen (citizen) of Latvia. Secondly, training at a public or private university located in the country. For the latter, you must have a document confirming the availability of secondary education, certified by Latvian lawyers. Education is conducted mainly in Latvian or English (private universities offer courses in Russian).
