Entry and exit to the territory of the Russian Federation of citizens of Ukraine are regulated by the Agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of Ukraine on visa-free travel of citizens of both countries dated January 16, 1997 (with amendments and additions dated October 30, 2004 and February 20, 2007). Despite the events in Ukraine related to the coup d'etat, the Agreement between the governments of Russia and Ukraine remains unchanged.
What documents may be required at the border
A citizen of Ukraine does not need a passport to enter Russia. It is enough to present at the border a passport of a citizen of Ukraine or other identity document. In this case, it is necessary to fill out a migration card at the checkpoint, which must be kept before leaving Russia.
To avoid problems with the Russian border service, the passport must meet the following requirements:
- the passport must be without significant damage;
- new photos of 20 and 45 years old must be pasted in;
- it is desirable that the last name, first name and patronymic be printed, and not written by hand.
If your civil passport does not meet at least one of the requirements, it is better to take your passport with you. If you do not have one, you can use another identity and citizenship card.
The list of documents required for a trip to Russia from Ukraine is indicated in the list of documents attached to the above Agreement between the governments. It should be noted that the list of documents was shortened in 2007. The list of additional identity documents includes:
- diplomatic passport;
- service passport;
- seaman's identity card;
- certificate of a crew member of an aircraft.
All passports of the former USSR, identity cards of an officer, general (admiral) and warrant officer (midshipman), as well as a military ID are excluded from the list of documents for entry, exit and movement through the territory of the Russian Federation of citizens of Ukraine.
What documents are needed to travel with children
To travel to Russia from Ukraine with children under 16, you must take their birth certificates with you.
If a child travels without parents (with one of the parents), you need to have permission from the parents (parent), certified by a notary, with you.
When traveling to Russia on a train that crosses the borders of Belarus, a travel document is required for the child.
Is temporary registration necessary in Russia
In Russia, citizens of Ukraine are exempt from temporary registration if the period of stay on its territory does not exceed 90 days. The next visit to Russia will be possible in 180 days.
If the three-month period of stay without temporary registration is exceeded, then this will entail a ban on entry to the territory of the Russian Federation within 3 years from the date of departure from Russia.
Migration cards are required in Russia and when leaving the country. Issued for all visitors, regardless of age. It is necessary to check the affixing of a stamp with the date and place of entry into the Russian Federation. You cannot lose your card.
For citizens of Ukraine to stay in Russia for more than 90 days, it is necessary to issue a temporary registration of a foreigner.
