In the modern world, there are many alliances that are created, as a rule, with military, political and economic goals. A striking example is NATO, the European Union and others.
The union of the Russian Federation and one of its closest neighbors, the Republic of Belarus, is no exception. The agreement on the creation of a Union State with a single currency, customs, language, as well as a single economic, military, legal, cultural and political space was signed on April 2, 1996. Since then, there has been a gradual unification of various internal political aspects of the countries into a single system.
The Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus form a single Union State. Union State Day is celebrated on April 2.
What kind of passport is needed to enter Belarus
Citizens of the Russian Federation, thanks to the above-described international agreements, can visit the Republic of Belarus only with an internal passport, a passport is not needed. There are no expiration dates. Customs offices between the countries are designed to check and control the contents of trucks and cars passing through Belarus to Russia. For citizens of the Union State, the border post is formal.
It is worth emphasizing that citizens arriving in Russia or Belarus by train do not make any stops at the border crossing zone of the two countries. Passports are checked directly upon boarding the train by conductors. No other checks take place until arrival at the desired point within the Union country.
This is useful to know
As a rule, the passports of citizens of the Union State are not checked at the border, however, in case of any doubts among customs officers, they can selectively stop the car and ask for documents. Also, in the event of any unfavorable political situations, the mandatory presentation of passports is temporarily introduced, regardless of nationality.
Stamps on crossing the border between Russia and the Republic of Belarus are not put in the passport.
For example, as of early March 2014, when leaving Belarus, passports are checked. The document can simply be shown in the open state to the border guard officer. Such measures were introduced in connection with the difficult political situation in Ukraine. At the same time, Russian citizens still do not need a foreign passport. Border crossing stamps are never placed on the passport or on any forms, so no documents need to be filled out at the border.
By the way, about the name of the country. Since 1991, the Soviet Republic of Belarus has disappeared from the world map. The official name of the country in both Russian and Belarusian sounds like Belarus. Under this name, the country is a member of the UN and other international organizations.
