Carry-on baggage dimensions

Before collecting carry-on luggage, you need to decide on its possible dimensions and weight. The baggage allowance for different airlines may differ from each other, so it is worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the rules of a particular flight in advance in the column "Baggage allowance / Free Allow" on the ticket.

The standard weight for carry-on luggage is considered to be 5 kg and a size not exceeding the sum of three dimensions (length, width, height) 115 cm. This can be a large bag or a small suitcase that will fit on the shelf located above the passengers' heads along the side of the aircraft or can fit under the seat.

Over the norm

There is a set of things that are considered carry-on baggage, but cannot be weighed and do not receive a ticket. These are the things that a passenger may need during boarding, immediately after landing and in flight:

- clothes and accessories: outerwear, suit in a garment bag, umbrella;

- personal items: handbag, briefcase, folder with documents;

- equipment: photo camera, video camera, laptop, mobile phone;

- printed publications: books, magazines, newspapers;

- baby things: meals for the duration of the flight, a stroller, a cradle;

- crutches, walking sticks and wheelchairs.

What you shouldn't take with you on the plane

When collecting hand luggage, one should not forget about the restrictions that airlines impose on the list of things that are allowed for carriage in the cabin. If during the inspection of hand luggage, an item from the black list is found, it will have to be thrown away, since the main baggage has already been checked in and there will be nowhere to move it.

The main restrictions apply to the carriage of liquids, which include creams, pastes and gels. All these liquids should be in bottles of no more than 100 ml. All vials, in turn, must be packed in a transparent plastic bag with a volume of no more than 1 liter, with an airtight seal. Carry-on baggage may contain no more than one such bag.

In addition to liquids, persons non grata in hand luggage are all piercing and cutting objects, weapons and objects imitating weapons: lighters, toys; spears, arrows, baseball bats, ski poles and golf clubs. Do not take toxic, explosive and flammable substances into the cabin.

Aerosols are also not permitted, except for asthma medications. Insulin syringes can also be problematic. It is better to worry about this in advance and get a doctor's note. Even if the certificate is not required upon departure, it may be needed when returning home, and in a foreign city it will be difficult to get the necessary document.

What not to check in baggage

It is advisable to take with you to the cabin not only things that will be needed during the flight - a blanket, a pillow under your head, but also valuable things. Documents, tickets, jewelry, money and bank cards - all this should not be packed in your main luggage, as it can get lost on the way. In addition, essential medicines should also be kept with you.
