Going on a trip for several days, there is often no need to check in your luggage, you can do with hand luggage. But it must meet the established standards, otherwise you will have to leave some something at the airport.
Carry-on baggage requirements are determined by the airline and the airport, so be sure to check them for your case before flying. But there are also general established rules and regulations.
1. Size of carry-on baggage.
It is due to the size of the luggage racks on the plane. Check the airline's website for the allowable bag length, width and height.
2. Weight and number of seats. Usually it is no more than 5 kilograms and one piece (that is, one bag), but the maximum weight also depends on the carrier company and on the ticket class. First and Business Class generally have two pieces of carry-on baggage and a higher weight limit.
For control at the airport, scales and special box shapes are installed to check the size of the bag.
3. Carriage of liquids.
All liquids must be in bottles or jars of no more than 100 ml each. Moreover, the total volume should not exceed 1 liter. Jars must be packed in a transparent bag. Most airports issue such packages. Keep in mind that the term “liquids” also includes creams, gels, toothpaste, decorative cosmetics (lipstick, mascara), oils.
Stores sell handy sets of 100 ml containers, especially for travel.
An exception is made for baby food and medicines (it is better to take a doctor's certificate about the need for this medicine).
4. Sharp and stabbing objects. Knives, manicure accessories cannot be carried in the aircraft cabin.
5. Hairspray and nail polish remover are classified as flammable and toxic and are not allowed in carry-on baggage.
6. Products.
Some countries are prohibited from exporting certain products, for example, meat or dairy products. Also note that yoghurts, caviar and cheese fall under the definition of "liquid" and are subject to the same restrictions, ie no more than 100 ml. It can be very upsetting when French or Swiss cheese is taken away at the airport, intended as a gift to friends.
7. Shopping in duty-free.
They are not subject to carry-on baggage restrictions if purchases are packed in a special closed bag. It is better not to throw away the check before arrival. But, if you have a flight with connections, then during a transfer, everything bought in duty-free automatically becomes hand luggage.
8. In addition to one piece of hand luggage, it is allowed to carry: a handbag, a men's briefcase, a laptop in a special bag, one piece of outerwear, one sealed bag with duty-free goods.
9. Common sense dictates that the transportation of weapons and drugs is still prohibited.
The severity of hand luggage screening depends on the airport and on the occasion. But, nevertheless, it is better not to take risks and follow the established rules.
