The State Hermitage is one of the main attractions of St. Petersburg. It is considered to be one of the best museums in the world. The Hermitage is located in the historical center of the Northern capital, on the main square of the city. There are several ways to get to it.

From the airport

The closest to the Hermitage is the Admiralteyskaya metro station. But guests of the city usually prefer other stations simply because they can be reached directly from the station or airport. If you are coming from Pulkovo airport, you must first get to the Moskovskaya metro station. This is not difficult, since all buses and minibuses go exactly to this station, located on the blue line. In this case, you will get to the Hermitage directly. You need to get to the station "Nevsky Prospekt", go to the Griboyedov Canal and walk a few hundred meters along Nevsky Prospekt towards the Admiralty. On your right hand you will see the arch of the General Staff, which will lead you to the Palace Square. You just have to cross it - and you will find yourself near the Hermitage.

How to get from train stations

All stations in St. Petersburg, except for Ladozhsky, are on the red line - it is called the first, and sometimes also Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya. You also need a second or third line, that is, blue or green. From the Moskovsky railway station, you can immediately get on the third line. To do this, it is enough to go to the Mayakovskaya station. After one stop, you will get to the Gostiny Dvor station, which, like Nevsky Prospekt, has an exit to the Griboyedov Canal. This option is convenient if you arrive at Finlyandsky railway station. You just need to drive two stops along the red line to the Ploschad Vosstaniya station, go to Mayakovskaya and get to Gostiny Dvor. But from the Baltic or Vitebsk railway stations it is more convenient to take one stop to the Tekhnologicheskiy Institut station, change to a train on the second line, and drive two more stops to the Nevsky Prospekt station. As for the Ladozhsky railway station, it is located on the fourth line, which is painted yellow on the diagrams. On this line, you can take two stops to the Ploschad Aleksandr Nevskogo station, change to a train on the third line (green) and continue two more stops to the Gostiny Dvor station. However, it is convenient to get from Ladozhskaya to Admiralteyskaya. You need to get to the Spasskaya station and go to Sadovaya, from which there is one stop to Admiralteyskaya. Leaving the metro and turning immediately to the left, you can easily find Malaya Morskaya Street. A few meters - and you will find yourself on Nevsky Prospekt. Turning in the direction of the Admiralty, in just a few minutes you will find yourself on Dvortsovaya.

What to take with you

The Hermitage is a public museum, and a ticket will be sold to everyone. But significant benefits are provided for Russian citizens. The entrance ticket for a Russian citizen is four times cheaper than for a foreigner. Russian pensioners and students are generally allowed in for free. So it makes sense to take your Russian passport, pension certificate or student ID with you.
