The Starozhilovsky stud farm belongs to the cultural heritage sites of Russia. Several famous names of the 19th century are associated with it at once - the complex was built according to the Shekhtel project, and the project was financed by Baron Derviz, one of the main initiators of the development of railway communication in the country.
The Starozhilovsky stud farm in the Ryazan region is a unique combination of historical buildings for various purposes, modern stables, an area with four entrances at once. In fact, this is a museum, but functioning on the basis of a stud farm, where to this day they raise horses, breed new breeds, train animals, allow visitors to walk, feed them, participate in any process taking place at the factory.
History of the Starozhilovsky stud farm
In the second half of the 19th century, in the Ryazan region, in the vicinity of the village of Starozhilovo, work was carried out on the laying of a railway track, which was headed by Pavel Grigorievich von Derviz. The character and kindness of the local residents impressed him so much that he bought the land from the ruined landowner, and already his son Pavel (a great lover of horses) decided to build a stud farm here. The Derviz family was very wealthy, and work on the construction of the equestrian complex was finished in just 6 years.
In fact, the territory of the Starozhilovsky stud farm was a city that included
- cowshed and dairy,
- stables and riding halls for horses,
- a plant for the production of vodka and wines,
- summer theater and recreation park,
- residential buildings for the baron's family and factory workers.
At the moment, the Starozhilovsky stud farm is the only object rebuilt in the 19th century and preserved in its original form, and even functioning to this day according to its original purpose.
Factory visitors can see with their own eyes how Russian riding horses are bred, ride them in the arena, take part in their walking and feeding. In addition, the employees of the plant conduct excursions, during which they tell about the history of the complex and its modern life.
