Before going to Greece, you should familiarize yourself with its traditions and peculiarities. What is considered normal for a Russian person may seem unusual or even offensive to the Greeks. Going on a trip, think over all the subtleties of your behavior in advance so as not to get into an unpleasant situation.

Step 1
Pay close attention to your gestures: many Greeks can understand differently than you do. For example, you should not put your index finger to your lips when asking the person to speak more quietly, as this would be seen as an intention to tell something. Swaying the palm, which in our country is usually accompanied by farewell, in Greece means a request to come closer. And a clenched fist with a protruding thumb in this country is a rude demand to shut up, not a sign that everything is fine.
Step 2
Be careful when walking the streets, especially in crowded places. There are a lot of pickpockets in Greece who are happy to rob slow-moving tourists. Petty thefts are especially common on public transport, so keep a close eye on your belongings and try not to carry valuable things and large amounts of money with you.
Step 3
Remember that Greece is a very hot country. Try not to walk unaccompanied during the day, and use special means to protect yourself from sunstroke. In particular, you should always have a bottle of water, a hat and a beach umbrella with you. If you suddenly feel unwell, try to find the nearest pharmacy. Its staff will definitely provide you with first aid.
Step 4
Do not smoke or show up in public drunk so that you do not have problems with the police. You can have a drink in a pub or restaurant, but only if you know when to stop. Drunk driving is of course unacceptable. As for smoking, it is prohibited in taxis and public places, with the exception of those with a designated area.
Step 5
Don't forget to tip. They should only be given to taxi drivers if they help you load or carry your luggage. But waiters in cafes and restaurants almost always need to tip, and their sum is on average 10-20% of the bill. Do not neglect this rule and try to take more money with you when you go to eat at a decent establishment.
Step 6
Women should be very careful to remember that rape is common in Greece. Do not walk unaccompanied, especially at night. Do not get into cars if an unknown driver offers to give you a ride. Do not trust new acquaintances and generally try to stay away from men who invite you to their place.
