Kiev is rich in sights. Among them there are both ancient historical monuments and works of modern art. Museum of the Great Patriotic War
The museum dedicated to the heroes and events of the Great Patriotic War was opened in 1981. The central place in the museum is occupied by the Motherland - a grandiose monument erected on the slopes of the Dnieper. It is impossible not to notice this monument: the height of the Motherland woman is 90 meters. The sculptor Evgeny Vuchetich was the first to start working on the project. The master did not have time to complete his work. He died, and the project was given to Vasily Boroday, who completed the work started by Vuchetich, significantly transforming the composition in the course of the work.
Kiev-Pechersk Lavra
The founders of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra are the monks Theodosius and Anthony - great hermits and cavemen. The monks created a cave monastery in order to get away from the vain world and unite in prayer with God. In the 12th century, the monastery was named "Lavra". Lavra was a "state within a state", as it was subordinate exclusively to the Byzantine patriarch. The most famous sights of the Lavra are the Holy Trinity Church, the Church of All Saints, the Lavra Bell Tower, and the caves with holy relics.
Saint Sophie Cathedral
St. Sophia Cathedral occupies a special place in the architecture of Kiev. We can say that not a cathedral was built in Kiev, but Kiev was built around this temple. The cathedral was built in the 11th century, presumably by order of Prince Vladimir. During the time of Yaroslav the Wise, the first democratic government of Rus - the Kiev veche - gathered under the cathedral. Hagia Sophia is included in the UNESCO list.
Science and Natural History Museum
The Natural History Museum was founded in 1966. The total area of the museum complex is 8 thousand square meters. The museum offers more than 30 thousand exhibits for inspection. Experimentanium
Experimentanium is a museum of a completely different, modern type. In this unique place, you can have fun and learn at the same time. The total area of Experimentanium is 1400 square meters. More than 250 interactive exhibits are presented to the guests. The museum is a scientific and entertainment center, on the territory of which various mechanisms are demonstrated and natural phenomena are explained from a scientific point of view. With the help of the exhibits, children and adults can independently conduct physical, optical, acoustic, and electrical experiments.
