The Potemkin Stairs
The Potemkin Stairs

During the beach season, tourists consider it their duty to visit all the beaches of the city, take a walk along the "Health Trail" - an asphalt road along which people walk or ride bicycles, cars are not allowed to pass here. In Odessa, there are many places worth visiting and sights to see.

The Potemkin Stairs

A beautiful view opens from the upper steps of the Potemkin Stairs at a height of 27 meters. It was built as the main entrance from the sea to the city, and initially consisted of 200 steps. But during the expansion of the port, 8 lower steps were lost, although now its length is more than 140 meters. Many travelers and authors, including Mark Twain and Jules Verne, wrote about this staircase in their memoirs. The staircase had many names, but did not have an official one; after the Second World War it was called Potemkin.

Vorontsov lighthouse

On the shore of the bay there is a high Vorontsovsky lighthouse, built in 1953 on the site of an old huge cast-iron lighthouse, which was blown up during the defense of the city in 1941. This lighthouse is seen by sailors at a distance of 15 miles, and during the fog it still beckons lost ships with its drone.

You can approach the Vorontsovsky lighthouse along a narrow path behind the port, where tourists are allowed only as part of one of the excursions.

Vorontsov Palace

Another of the symbols of Odessa is the Vorontsov Palace, built for Prince Vorontsov. The prince organized lavish balls and festivities in this palace, and at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, several circles for children were held in it. Now the palace is in disrepair and needs restoration. But it is still a stately building in the history of the city.

In 2012, the marble fountain "Istok" was restored near the Vorontsov Palace.

Kirch

A wonderful building in Odessa is the Lutheran Cathedral of the Kirch. Its author is the same architect who created the project of the Vorontsov Palace. This is a center for all Lutheran believers in Ukraine, it simply delights with its magnificence. Now the cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Ukrainian Church.

Odessa catacombs

An excursion to the Odessa catacombs-quarries will be interesting for tourists. These catacombs were used by Soviet partisans during World War II. Here, about 2 km of hiking are equipped for visitors. To get on the excursion, from the Odessa bus station, you need to go by minibus # 84 or # 87 to the village of Nebruiskoye.
