There are a large number of lakes, rivers, seas in the world, painted in the most unexpected colors. As a rule, the microflora that inhabits the water gives them a shade.
Lake in Spain
The Spanish lake Salinas de Torrevieja is known as a source of mineral resources for the region. The lake has no runoff, and therefore all the salt that gets into it remains in its shores. Over the years, the solution became so saturated that the bottom and the coastal strip were covered with a crust of crystals. An unusual pink tint to the water of the lake is given by the archaea Halobacterium living here. Although the alga Dunaliella salina also contributes to the overall color spectrum, releasing red-orange beta-carotene into the water.
Colored lake within the borders of Russia
But is it really possible that such outlandish reservoirs are found only abroad? Perhaps someone has come across the name Raspberry Lake. As you know, place names are often very deceptive. And the Black Sea is not so black, and the water of the Red Sea cannot be compared with grape wine. But with Raspberry Lake, everything is different. Like Salinas de Torrevieja, the salty Crimson Lake is inhabited by microscopic inhabitants of bright color. Only these are not archaea or algae, but small crustaceans Artemia salina.
The lake does not always have a crimson color. The color changes from season to season, and even the height of the sun above the horizon affects the color of the water. But at certain moments it really takes on a rich crimson color.
Heading to Raspberry Lake
In the south-west of the Altai Territory lies a group of Borovoye Lakes. These are very diverse reservoirs with fresh and salt water, flowing and endless. This group includes Raspberry Lake. This part of the Altai Territory has little in common with the mountain range of the same name and is more reminiscent of the steppes of neighboring Kazakhstan. That is why the formation of a salt lake became possible here.
The regional center is located 375 kilometers to the northeast, and near the lake itself there is the village of Mikhailovsky and Raspberry Lake, in which salt extracted from the reservoir is processed. The local steppes are crossed by a branch of the Kulunda - Rubtsovsk railway.
Like any salt lake, Raspberry can boast of its medicinal properties. Both the water and the mud here are saturated with minerals, which, penetrating the skin, have a beneficial effect on the entire body. Swimming in these waters, it is impossible to drown, as this saline solution is denser than the tissues of the human body. But you should not linger in the water for a long time, because the slightest damage to the skin will make itself felt with itching and burning.
