Miami is an internationally renowned beach resort that immediately brings to mind the sight of the endless ocean shore stretching into the distance. Where is he?
Miami is a resort city located in the state of Florida in the United States of America.
Miami as a city
Officially, Miami received the status of a city relatively recently - in 1896, when it was still a small settlement, in which about 300 people lived. Since then, it has grown significantly: today the city has a population of over 400,000, making it the 43rd largest city in the United States. In its state of Florida, Miami is the second most populous country after Jacksonville.
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that in the United States it is customary to take into account the size of a settlement as part of an agglomeration, which includes nearby large and small cities and settlements: after all, people often live in the suburbs due to the lower cost of housing and better environmental conditions, and they travel to the big city for work. As a result, the total number of inhabitants of such an agglomeration turns out to be significantly higher than the population of the city. The same is true of Miami: for example, the population of the metropolitan area of Miami is more than 5 million, making it the fourth largest in the United States after the metropolitan areas of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
Miami as a resort
Miami is considered the most famous resort not only in Florida, but, perhaps, in the entire United States of America. The beaches on its territory are almost exclusively sandy, and their total length is more than 40 kilometers. The most popular among them are Miami Beach and South Beach. Numerous vacationers can stay in one of dozens of hotels built both right on the shore and at some distance from it. In Miami, hotels of almost all of the world's largest chains are represented. For example, the building of the Four Seasons Hotel and Tower is notable; its height is 240 meters.
Thanks to the warm ocean current - the Gulf Stream, which flows only 24 kilometers from the resort, the climate in Miami is exceptionally mild. The average annual temperature here is about 28 degrees, and even in the coldest months it rarely drops below 20 degrees, and in summer it can reach 35-37 degrees. At the same time, the water temperature throughout the year is in the range from 20 to 24 degrees, which makes it suitable for swimming regardless of the season. However, due to its climate and location, Miami is an area that is prone to tropical hurricanes: the likelihood of their occurrence is highest in August-September.
