Step 1
If a person travels to India as part of a tourist group, all questions, of course, will be decided by the travel company. She will meet a tourist, put him in a hotel, take him along a certain route, show several sights and send him back in two weeks. After that, the tourist will be proud that he has visited the mysterious East, will print a number of photos in the spirit of “I am against the background of the Taj Mahal” and will have no idea what he saw during the trip just a little. As a person who has visited this beautiful country many times, it is my deep conviction that you can truly feel India only by traveling through it yourself, visiting places that organized groups rarely take. These are often places that guidebooks do not mention. Therefore, I will give both some general tips for traveling to India and tell you about the most interesting, really interesting places in it.
So, you flew to the Indira Gandhi airport, went through passport control, took off a certain amount of Indian rupees and are standing in the arrivals hall. Where to go next? There are many hotels in Delhi - from very expensive hotels of the Taj group, where one night costs as much as a month's overnight stays in guesthouses, to those very guesthouses offering everything a person really needs - a bed, a shower, Internet access. for a dozen dollars.
Most amateur tourists stop in the Paharganj area, on Main Bazaar Street. This is due to two reasons: firstly, this street consists of two rows of inexpensive hotels and cafes, shops and other similar establishments located near them. Secondly, the eastern end of this street goes to the New Delhi station, from which most trains leave for different parts of India (in general, there are four stations in Delhi - Delhi two kilometers north of New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin in the southern part of the city and Rohilla's barn in western, but New Delhi is the main one). The price of a room in the Main Bazaar starts from 500 rupees.
The easiest way to get from the airport to Main Bazaar is by metro. The entrance to the metro is located in the airport building, travel to New Delhi station costs 150 rupees (this is the most expensive route of the Delhi metro - on other lines the fare is no more than 30 rupees). Travel time 35 minutes - and you are at the main Delhi station, on the side opposite to Main Bazaar. You need to go to the station, go through the pedestrian bridge and the Main Bazaar will start across the square. You can stay at any hotel you see first, but I recommend the Hare Krishna and Hare Rama hotels in the middle of the street.
Step 2
There is another place where tourists often stop. This is the Majnu ka Tilla area in the northern part of the metropolis. It is interesting because a large number of immigrants from Tibet live there, so this is such a Buddhist corner in Delhi. Various Buddhist paraphernalia can be bought from the shops in the area, so if you are interested in Buddhism, this is the place for you. The price of a room for Majnu ka Tilla starts from 200 rupees. The disadvantage of this area is that there are no metro stations nearby and can only be reached by rickshaw or taxi.
Step 3
Quite expensive hotels are located on Connaught Place. This is the very center of the city, there are many restaurants, company offices, shopping centers, including the large underground market Pallika Bazar. The comfort in these hotels is noticeably higher, but the price per room starts from 2000 rupees. Below this square is the Rajiv Chowk metro station, which is the main interchange hub of the Delhi metro, so getting there is a snap.
