Pyatigorsk is one of the oldest and most famous balneological resorts in Russia. Since ancient times, its underground springs and healing mud have attracted those in need of healing. In 1830, the general plan of the city was approved by the cabinet of ministers of Nicholas I, where the sick and suffering from all over the Russian Empire were drawn.
Instructions
Step 1
The city is surrounded by picturesque mountains. Its streets are decorated with numerous parks and squares. The oldest park "Tsvetnik" is the same age as Pyatigorsk. It is broken up on the site of swamps formed by flowing waters from mountain springs. This park has a grotto dedicated to the first ascent of Elbrus by the Russian military expedition. Later, the grotto was named after the ancient Roman goddess of the moon and the hunt - Diana. This graceful structure, decorated with Doric columns, has become an indispensable point of all tourist routes. Opposite the park there is a museum of local lore, which presents exhibitions dedicated to the history of Pyatigorsk and its environs. You can get to the park by trams # 1 and # 5.
Step 2
The fate of the great Russian poet M. Yu. is closely connected with Pyatigorsk. Lermontov. Here he spent the last months of his life, here he wrote his best prose work "A Hero of Our Time" and many poems. A small modest house under a thatched roof, where Mikhail Yuryevich lived for the last 2 months, and where he, mortally wounded, was taken after a duel, in 1912 became the poet's museum. You can get to the museum from the railway station by any tram to the stop "Tsvetnik".
Step 3
Mount Mashuk rises within the city limits. On its southern slope is the famous underground lake Proval, filled with mineral water containing hydrogen sulfide. Not only the heroes of the novel "A Hero of Our Time" went to admire this attraction. It was here that Ostap Bender turned one of his scams - he began to collect money from vacationers for the pleasure of looking at a natural landmark. The cave entrance is decorated with a statue of the great schemer.
Step 4
The hot spring, which originates in Proval, has formed several natural baths on the rocky ledges of the mountain. Here you can swim in warm mineral water, slightly sulfuric. It is not difficult to reach Proval on foot from the Flower Garden Park.
Step 5
On the northwestern slope of Mount Mashuk is the supposed place of the duel between Lermontov and Martynov. There is a monument dedicated to the mournful event. You can get to the glade, where the poet was mortally wounded, along Kalinin Avenue, turning onto the adjacent road marked with stone pylons.
Step 6
In 1831, on the top of one of the spurs of the mountain, the famous "Aeolian Harp" pavilion was built. Once upon a time, a musical instrument, the aeolian harp, was installed in it - a wooden box with stretched strings that vibrated under the influence of the wind. Now you won't be able to listen to the music of the winds - electronic music sounds in the pavilion. However, the view of Pyatigorsk and its environs from the height of the Mikhailovsky spur is worth climbing there.
