You can get to Kaliningrad by train, plane or private car. But depending on the type of transport that the traveler prefers to get to the former Konigsberg, you will need to take a different list of documents with you.
It is necessary
- - General civil passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation,
- - international passport.
Instructions
Step 1
It is impossible to get to Kaliningrad by train without a valid foreign passport: in order to get to the city, you need to pass through two states - Belarus and Lithuania. And if the visa-free regime in the Republic of Belarus allows Russians to move around the country with a general civil passport, then there are no such agreements with Lithuania. Therefore, in order to travel without incident in transit through Lithuania, you need to have a passport with you. However, not only him. For passengers traveling through Lithuania to Kaliningrad by train, a special document is issued - FRTD. A simplified travel document makes it possible to stay on the territory of the Republic for no longer than 6 hours. Nominally, the FRT is an analogue of a visa, but at the same time it does not allow crossing the Lithuanian border by another mode of transport, except for rail. The document is drawn up when buying a ticket at the railway ticket office. After that, a request is sent to the consular department of Lithuania, the processing of which takes at least twenty-eight hours. After this time, the passenger must contact the ticket office and inquire about the decision of the Lithuanian side. In case of a negative answer, the passenger has the right to return the ticket and get the money back.
Step 2
Traveling to Kaliningrad by plane is not only faster than traveling by train, but also involves less paperwork. You can buy a ticket using both a civil and a foreign passport. At the same time, no additional documents (visas) are required. Of course, if there are no plans for a 2-3 day trip from Kaliningrad to Lithuania or Poland. Then the registration of a Schengen visa for the country to which you plan to travel is mandatory.
Step 3
In order to get to Kaliningrad by private vehicle, you must also apply for a Schengen visa. To receive it, a package of documents must be provided to the consular department of the embassy, which includes: a completed application form, photographs, medical insurance, a copy of the pages of a Russian passport, a bank statement or a certificate from work, detailed information about the travel route and a receipt with the paid visa fee … For those who often travel to Kaliningrad, there is the possibility of issuing an FTD - a simplified transport document. But it is issued only to those who are registered in the Kaliningrad region, who have relatives there, or who often travel to the former Konigsberg for work.
