Egyptian pyramids are usually spoken of with a touch of respect. Since ancient times, these buildings are surrounded by an aura of wonderful secrets. The Sphinx is no exception - one of the largest statues in the world, guarding the pyramids of the rulers-pharaohs in Giza.
Going down to the foot of the Giza plateau, one cannot fail to notice the ancient guardian of the pyramids - the Great Sphinx - a resting lion with a human head. Great secrets shine through in all his appearance. It is the world's largest monolithic sculpture (height - 20 m, length - 73 m.) Historians believe that the Sphinx was cut down during the construction of the pyramid of Khafre, and its face reflects the features of this pharaoh. There is a wonderful energy near the monument. One gets the impression that the Sphinx is a living being. He is inaccessible and proud, and he does not care about all the fuss that is happening around. After all, he has a different purpose in the world. He is a guardian. What is he guarding? According to existing myths, the Sphinx is assigned to monitor the rising of the Sun, as well as the rotation of the planets. Plus, he must keep an eye on Sirius. And for all this work, he should make sacrifices. According to Arab legend, the pyramids were built to save the Egyptians during the flood, and the Sphinx was supposed to warn people in advance of a possible catastrophe. Japanese scientists, while examining the monument with the help of special devices, discovered a narrow tunnel that leads towards the pyramid of Khafre. Another mystery of the great Sphinx. The monument, like other pyramids, is timeless. But people … Some of them fired guns at the face, others beat off their nose. The soldiers of Napoleon's army amused themselves with shooting in the eyes of the Sphinx, the British recaptured the stone beard of the sculpture and put it on display in their British Museum. But the Sphinx doesn't give up. The proud, wary and, at the same time, sad gaze of the lion-man is directed into the distance. And where is the Sphinx looking? There are many opinions. Some believe that to the East behind the Sun. Others - that the statue of a lion is intended to focus specifically on the constellation of Leo. Since the statue is facing east, according to the theory of Egyptologists, who revealed the true meaning of her name ("Choir in the sky"), it points to the rising sun. But since it rises strictly in the east only on the day of the equinox, this "implies" the Sphinx. Rather, that phase of it, which occurs at the culmination of the Earth and the constellation Leo. In other words, the Sphinx is an indicator of time, namely: the constellation of Leo on the day of the equinox. Summing up the above, we can conclude that the Sphinx is looking where no one is allowed to look. And he sees what ordinary mortals will never see, because what is given to the Gods is not allowed to an ordinary person. The Sphinx is a fairy tale in reality, which you can touch with your hand, recharge its energy, breathe its air, and even time seems to flow here differently.
