In 1793, one of the most beautiful southern cities was founded, now known as Krasnodar. Previously, the city was called Yekaterinodar, in honor of Catherine II, who donated the territory on which the city was built. From a small military camp, the city turned into a large trade center, the capital of the Kuban.
There are many interesting museums in the city of Krasnodar, including almost unique ones.
Literary Museum of the Kuban.
The Literary Museum is located in the house of the ataman of the Black Sea Cossacks, the Kuban writer and ethnographer Yakov Kukharenko. The museum presents the literary life of the Kuban from the middle of the 18th century to the present day. Among the exhibits you can find handwritten books and personal belongings of the Kukharenko family. The museum also hosts guided tours and thematic lectures. Museum of military equipment "Weapon of Victory".
The Museum of Military Equipment is located in the open air in the Krasnodar Park of 30 Years of Victory. The museum is 24/7 and completely free. Military equipment can be touched with hands, photographed and studied. Here you can find tanks, cannons, anti-aircraft guns, submarines, the legendary Katyushas and other types of weapons, 40 exhibits in total. Samson Bodybuilding Museum.
This is a very rare museum - the only one in Russia that contains materials on the history of bodybuilding, medals and cups won by Kuban athletes, as well as photographs. The museum was created to attract people to sports training. Here you can get free advice on healthy eating and exercise. The museum is located at 129 Krasnaya Street and is open from 10.00 to 19.00.
Museum of Postal Service in the Kuban.
The first and only museum of postal communications in the Kuban was opened in 2006 at 68 Karasunskaya Street. The museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10.00 to 13.00. Here you can learn about the past and present of the Kuban post office, see the first Russian stamps, special devices for stamps and forms for postmen. Letters from the front are kept separately, as well as private letters, which are about two centuries old.
Memorial Museum-Apartment of the People's Artist of the USSR G. F. Ponomarenko.
The museum was opened in the apartment where the composer lived for about a quarter of a century. Poets, writers, musicians and singers, as well as close friends of Ponomarenko, often gathered here. Here new songs were born and performed for the first time, and creative plans were discussed. The museum has preserved furniture from the composer's study, memorable souvenirs presented on holidays and Ponomarenko's personal belongings: a guitar, two button accordions, hundreds of audio recordings. The composer's library with autographs of the authors, personal notebooks and thousands of letters from fans of creativity are also interesting. Museum of the history of the North Caucasus Railways.
The Krasnodar Museum of the History of the North Caucasian Railway occupies only a few rooms in the Palace of Culture of railway workers. But it is here that you can see rare equipment used on the railway, maps and documents related to the history of the railway in the Kuban. Also, the museum contains a whole collection of reduced models of trains from different eras. The museum is located at 2 Brothers Drozdov Street and is open daily from 9.00 to 15.00.
Museum of the Cossacks.
The Ethnographic Museum is located at 58 Vinogradnaya Street and is open from 10.00 to 17.00. The museum contains a variety of interesting exhibits: books, documents, photographs, maps of the Kuban region, household items, dishes, clothes, weapons, paintings and much more related to the history of the Cossacks. The museum often hosts exhibitions, tastings of Cossack dishes and drinks.
