Krasnodar Territory - a zone of Russian subtropics

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, travel abroad has become commonplace, and many millions of Russians have chosen far abroad for recreation and treatment. But even now, when trips abroad have become the most common thing, many people visit the resorts of the former USSR.

In the old days, the resort town of Sochi on the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory rightfully bore the proud title of "All-Union Health Resort". Many millions of people, attracted by the warm sea, the opportunity to receive qualified treatment in sanatoriums, the beautiful subtropical nature, and the abundance of fruits, strove here for their summer holidays. Sanatoriums and hotels could not accommodate this mass of people, so many came as "savages", that is, rented a room or any room suitable for lodging with local residents.

Of course, in these cases, the level of comfort and service was very low, but there was no choice.

After the collapse of the USSR, only memories of the former popularity of Sochi remained, and the established infrastructure of resort recreation fell into decay. However, some time ago, the leadership of the Krasnodar Territory made serious efforts to restore Sochi's former reputation. An important role in this was played, of course, by the preparation of Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics. The results affected: the number of Russians wishing to relax on the Russian Black Sea coast has grown significantly.

In addition to Sochi, such Black Sea resort cities as Gelendzhik, Anapa, Tuapse are popular.

Those Russians who are interested in budget vacations on the shallow warm sea prefer to visit the Azov resort of Yeisk.

Popular resorts of the near abroad

Crimea is still very popular with some people, especially its southern coast, protected by mountains. Yalta, Alushta, Alupka, Gurzuf - these names were well known to many millions of former Soviet citizens. And even now, many people tend to these resort cities in order not only to swim and sunbathe, but also to admire the beautiful subtropical nature, see a lot of historical and architectural sights, taste the famous Crimean wines, and undergo treatment in sanatoriums.

People suffering from kidney diseases still go to the resort town of Truskavets in western Ukraine to drink the unique, nowhere else, mineral water "Naftusya". Finally, there are people who love to visit the Baltic resorts, for example, Jurmala, Palanga.
