HISTORY

The North American brewery Anheuser Busch and the British organization The Tussauds Group have jointly designed and built the largest theme park, now the most famous attraction in Salou. The park was opened to visitors on May 1, 1995. In 1997, the American film company Universal Studios acquired a significant part of the park's shares, and in the same year the park was renamed Universal's PortAventura. It was during this period that the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker (Woody Woodpecker) became the main symbol of PortAventura. When the water park opened on the territory of the park in 2000, it was renamed again. The new name is "Universal Mediterranea". But already in 2004, Universal Studios sold the shares, which in 2005 became owned by the largest Spanish banking company - La Caixa. The park was returned to its original name - PortAventura.

In 2017, PortAventura World opened its second theme park, Ferrari Land. There are 4 four-star hotels and 2 five-star hotels in the park. The park is still actively expanding and developing.
