A child who is adopted by a foster family and is born overseas will automatically acquire Australian Citizenship status if the final stage of the adoption process took place in Australian territory. In this case, the child must have a permanent visa, the adoptive parents (or one of them) must have the status of a citizen, and in addition the child must be under 18 years of age at the time of the adoption decision.
Step 4
If the adoption process took place outside Australia, then he cannot automatically obtain citizenship status. However, it can be acquired “through the initial award of status”.
Step 5
People born outside the state in 1949 and later are considered citizens automatically if the parents (or one of them) was an Australian citizen at that time. To recognize a child as an Australian citizen, you simply need to submit an application (parents can do this before they reach the age of 18, or on their own behalf, if the child has reached the age of 18).
Step 6
The last way to obtain citizenship status is its initial award. Applicant must be in possession of a valid permanent Australian visa. In addition, he must have lived in the state for at least four years, and at least one year as a permanent resident of Australia.
Step 7
After you have submitted an application (petition) to become an Australian citizen, you will need to take an oral interview test. The Citizenship Test includes questions about the history, culture and state symbols of Australia. You are given 45 minutes to complete it. The test is done in writing. For its successful completion, 60% of correct answers must be given.
Step 8
Within 30 days (subject to the successful completion of the citizenship test), the application is considered by the minister. If there are no compelling reasons for refusal, then within three months you will be notified of the time and place of the ceremony, at which you will be presented with an Australian citizen certificate in a solemn atmosphere.
