Obtaining citizenship in India is many times more difficult than in any European country. The law on citizenship, adopted in the republic back in 1955, imposes strict requirements on foreigners wishing to become citizens of the state. However, even for such people there is an opportunity to obtain the status of a citizen, although it is associated with a very lengthy bureaucratic procedure.

Step 1
Apply for a long term tourist visa to India. The maximum term of such a visa is from 3 to 6 months. For its registration, you will need a passport, a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation, a copy of an air ticket, 2 color photographs 3, 5 × 4, 5 cm, a bank certificate on financial solvency (for the unemployed or temporarily unemployed). In addition, from May 16, 2011, when applying for a long-term tourist visa, an additional tourist declaration must be filled out.
Step 2
Live in India, continually renewing or opening a new Long Term Tourist Visa for 4 years out of the last 7 years. This is the period established by the legislation on Indian citizenship for naturalization citizenship (obtaining citizenship through naturalization). The law also requires that before applying for the status of a citizen of India, the applicant must have stayed in the republic for the last 12 months without leaving its borders.
Step 3
Give up Russian citizenship: India's constitution does not allow both Indian citizenship and foreign citizenship. Article 19 of Federal Law No. 62 "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation" provides for renunciation of citizenship of the Russian Federation on the basis of a voluntary expression of will. To renounce citizenship, it is not necessary to return from India to Russia; the procedure can be carried out by employees of the Russian representative office in the republic. It is there that you will submit an application for the termination of citizenship, which must be drawn up in Russian, an identity document, documents confirming your place of residence, a receipt for payment of a state fee and three photographs of 3x4 cm in size. Officials have the right to make a decision to terminate citizenship within a year.
Step 4
Having ceased to be a Russian citizen, notify the Government of India that you have renounced your previous citizenship in accordance with the laws in force in Russia. Apply for Russian citizenship to the authorized body of the republic and wait for a decision on your application.
