The Russian Ethnographic Museum appeared at the beginning of the last century. It was a department of the Russian Museum. A building was specially built for him on Engineering Street, next to the famous repository of works of Russian painting and sculpture. In the 30s, the museums were divided, and the ethnographic museum became known as the State Museum of Ethnography of the Peoples of the USSR. The name "Russian Ethnographic Museum" appeared in 1992, after the collapse of the Soviet Union. It is located in the same building at 4/1 Engineering Street, designed by the architect V. Svinin.
By metro from the airport
The fastest way to get to the Russian Ethnographic Museum is by metro. Engineering Street adjoins the Arts Square. The nearest metro station is Nevsky Prospekt. She is on the blue (second) metro line. If you are on your way from Pulkovo Airport, you can get to the Russian Ethnographic Museum directly. In any case, a bus from the airport will take you to the Moskovskaya metro station, which is also on the blue line. At the station "Nevsky Prospekt" you need to go to Mikhailovskaya Street. The lobby opens onto an underground passage under Nevsky Prospekt, you have to walk to the end and turn right. From train stations

From it you can exit through the vestibule of the station "Nevsky Prospect" or go to Gostiny Dvor, turn left and walk to the underpass at the corner of Nevsky and Mikhailovskaya. From the Moskovsky railway station you can immediately get to Mayakovskaya. If you have arrived at the Baltic or Vitebsk railway stations, it is more convenient to change trains at the Tekhnologicheskiy institute station - both from the Baltiyskaya and Pushkinskaya stations, it is at a distance of one haul. From the Ladozhsky railway station it is better to get to Spasskaya, go to Sennaya and go one stop. Ground transportation in the area is not very convenient. Of course, there are many routes in the center of St. Petersburg. But the nearest stops are at the same distance as the metro. In addition, the traffic situation during the daytime is such that you can get there much faster on foot.
