Flight delays are not uncommon these days. The reason may be weather conditions, technical malfunctions and many other, very diverse reasons. What if your flight is delayed? What are the rights of passengers on delayed flights?
If your flight is delayed, you need to know your rights, as, unfortunately, airlines are not always in a hurry to fulfill their obligations towards passengers.
If a flight delay interferes with your plans, you have the right to cancel the flight altogether. In this case, the airline is obliged to pay you the full cost of the ticket, even if, according to the fare rules, your ticket is considered non-refundable.
You may be refused to return the money directly at the airport and sent to the agency where you bought the ticket. If this happens, ask the airline representative at the counter at the airport to fill in the delayed flight information on your ticket. With such a mark, you will be paid out much faster. In the case of an e-ticket, a check mark can be placed on the printed itinerary of the receipt.
If you have to wait for the plane to take off, then you can request the following services from the air carrier free of charge:
1. If your flight is delayed by two hours or more, you must be served soft drinks.
2. If the take-off is delayed by more than four hours, the airline representatives are obliged to arrange hot meals. Meals should be served every six hours during the daytime and every eight hours at night.
3. If you are traveling with a child under the age of seven, you must have a seat in the mother and child room.
4. If the takeoff of the aircraft is delayed by six or more hours at night and by eight or more hours during the day, the airline representatives are obliged to accommodate all passengers in the hotel and arrange free delivery to the hotel.
5. The airline is also obliged to provide free storage of your luggage.
6. Arrange the possibility of two free calls in case of a flight delay of two hours or more
You also have the right to material compensation for the carrier's failure to fulfill its obligations to carry out air transportation. It is best to draw up and sign a declarative requirement directly at the airport. Usually, passengers are paid 25% of the ticket price in the event of a flight delay.
