Wellington is the southernmost capital in the world. Despite the fact that this is a very small city with a population of 400,000 people, you will always find a way to have fun and usefully your time. It offers both the familiar entertainment that you can get in any developed city in the world, and unique, which you can find only in New Zealand.
Cultural capital
Despite its remoteness from the world's cultural centers, Wellington is far from a cultural periphery. The city regularly hosts prestigious exhibitions of modern and classical art, as well as dozens of excellent museums and galleries.
The Wellington City Gallery is New Zealand's largest art museum, displaying over 8,000 unique pieces of contemporary art, from painting and sculpture to technological innovation.
Museum "Te Papa Tongareva". This museum, one of the world's largest centers, contains samples of the culture of the Maori Indians and thousands of unique archaeological finds, including the remains of dinosaurs.
In the most interesting exposition "On the Sheep's Back" you can see the amazing discoveries of ancient people.
There are two other museums not to be missed: Pataca Gallery and New Dawes Museum. In them you will find local history exhibitions that tell about the most important events in the history of New Zealand of the colonial period and samples of the work of local artisans.
Flora and fauna
It would be unforgivable to visit New Zealand and bypass the unique natural resources of this island. In Wellington, you can see with your own eyes hundreds of animals and plants that are found only in this region. Look for them at Wellington Zoo and Botanical Gardens. They are among the world's best parks and are home to dozens of species of the rarest animals and plants. Don't forget to visit the local planetarium.

Recreation and entertainment
Wellington's main entertainment center, widely known beyond its borders, is the famous Cuba Street. This is a long pedestrian street in the city center with a huge number of cafes and restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops and street musicians. It is on this street that many cultural events take place, and if you are lucky, you can also see the famous New Zealand carnival.
And if you are a fan of cinema, then you have a direct road to Welllywood. This is a studio / park / entertainment center dedicated to cinematography and, in no small measure, Peter Jackson's masterpieces. There you will find many bars that have been visited by international celebrities, sculptures created by craftsmen working on the sets of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and King Kong, and dozens of other ways to have fun.
