Step 1
When choosing an expedition, start from your own preferences. If you are into archeology, check with your nearest historical institute. There, every summer, students are sent to practice - to excavate ancient burials, study the remains of ancient settlements, to the sites of ancient battles, etc. Also, volunteers are recruited to the search engine group. Most often, their work is not paid. But accommodation and meals are provided - in a tent camp or student hostel. There are no special requirements, except for the desire to participate in the expedition and interest in history.
Step 2
Expeditions aimed at studying the biosphere are carried out in agricultural and veterinary institutes. Most often they are shorter than archaeological excavations, but they are more rich in information. During the trip, students collect herbarium, recognize the voices of birds, make entries in the weather diary, observe the behavior of animals, etc. You can sign up for an expedition by contacting the dean's office of the university.
Step 3
Besides student studies, try your hand at public expeditions. Due to lack of funding, research institutions are forced to hire volunteers free of charge. There are several communities in Russia that regularly organize expeditions. These are "Russian Expeditions", "Debri", "Himalayan Club", "Arctic" and others.
