Bryansk is one of the ancient Russian cities. It stands on the banks of the Desna, at the crossroads from Russia to European countries. During the Second World War, the city was the center of the partisan movement, which is now reminded of by numerous monuments. Fedor Tyutchev, Eduard Tsiolkovsky, Alexander Chizhevsky were born here.
In Bryansk there are a lot of sights reminiscent of the events of the Great Patriotic War. Among them is the Mound of Immortality - a monument to soldiers who laid down their lives in the name of victory. He is one of the symbols of the city. It is a majestic structure in the form of an earthen embankment topped with a five-pointed star. The Kurgan is located in the picturesque Nightingale Park. In the center of the city there is a monument to the Bryansk pilots. It is a pedestal on which the legendary MiG-17 jet fighter is installed. After the war, a fighter regiment was based here, whose pilots took part in the war with Korea. Be sure to visit the historical core of the city - Pokrovskaya Gora. In the 12th century, the Bryansk Kremlin was located here. However, in the 18th century, it ceased to exist. Now the central building of the Pokrovskaya Gora is the cathedral of the same name. It is considered the oldest surviving temple in the city. Nearby there is a memorial complex, which was built in honor of the millennium of Bryansk, and Partizan Square is also worth a visit. There is a monument to military and partisan glory, at the foot of which the Eternal Flame is burning. Right behind the square there is a museum of local lore, the exposition of which will tell about the history of the Bryansk land. The A. Tolstoy Park-Museum is one of the amazing parks not only in Bryansk, but throughout Russia. Its small area contains a unique collection of wood sculptures, there are also several fountains, attractions, cafes. The park bears the name of the famous writer Alexei Tolstoy, who was born in the Bryansk region. Tourists are also interested in the mansion near Pokrovskaya Gora, where a wealthy Bryansk merchant Mikhail Avraamov lived in the middle of the 19th century. The mansion has an atypical look for that time. It was built in the spirit of Gothic architecture, which attracted attention. During the war, the merchant's house was badly damaged, as a result of which it was partially rebuilt. Now it houses the residence of the Bryansk metropolitan. Not far from the house of Abraham, on a hillock, there is the Gorne-Nikolskaya church. It was built in the 18th century on the site of a wooden church. Once it housed a planetarium, now there is a monastery within its walls. At the entrance to Bryansk, you can see the country's only monument to front-line drivers. Its idea and place of construction are not accidental. It was from this place that the auto battalion, which was formed from the drivers of Bryansk, left for the war. The monument was erected with money from local automobile enterprises. On the opposite side of the monument, on the pedestals, there are real front-line vehicles of that time - ZiS-5 and GAZ-AA. Local motorists have a wonderful tradition - they honk every time they drive past the monument in memory of those drivers who died at the front.
