Legendary Greece occupies nearly 3000 islands in the Mediterranean. Moreover, most of them are uninhabited, and there are only 78 more than 100 inhabitants. Almost all islands are divided into archipelagos.

Step 1
The most famous and popular Greek island is Crete. It is an individual unit that does not belong to any archipelago. Crete is located in the south of the Aegean Sea. The central city is Heraklion. There are many resorts in Crete, from very budget to luxury ones. The island also boasts an interesting and fun nightlife.
Step 2
Unlike the southern part of the Aegean Sea, the northern one is not very developed in terms of tourism. The North Aegean archipelago has several islands. However, they are attractive, for the most part, to architects and historians. Tourists pay little attention to this place. The main island of the archipelago is Lesvos, a beautiful resort and home to many ancient Greek poets (Sappho, Theophrastus, Theophilus, etc.).

The Ionian archipelago is located in the western part of the country. Here the most popular island among tourists is Corfu. This place has beautiful beaches, unique monuments of the Middle Ages and the opportunity to have fun and relaxation. It should be noted that Corfu is covered with the most beautiful olive groves, which have become the hallmark of the island.

The two archipelagos have the beautiful name Sporades. The northern ones are distinguished by a small number of both residents and tourists. This is despite the fact that the second largest island in the country is located here - Evia (Euboea), which is very close to the mainland of the country. As a tourist zone, this place was chosen by the Greeks. Evia is rich in natural attractions: forests, hot springs, mountains, crystal clear sea and beaches with the finest sand.

The most famous islands of the Eastern Sporades are Samos, Ikaria, Chios. Samos "nurtured" many famous personalities: Pythagoras, Aristarchus, Epicurus, Melissa and others. This island is most often used as a place for secluded relaxation. The main attractions of Ikaria are healing springs and two beautiful beaches: Mesakti and Yaliskari. Chios is rich in medieval settlements and wild beaches.

The largest and most numerous archipelago is the Cyclades. The islands are best suited for tourism. Santorini and Mykonos are especially popular. The visiting card of the first is the beaches with volcanic sand, the most beautiful sunset in the world, as well as more than 350 churches. Mykonos is an island that has become a favorite vacation spot for many famous personalities. They are attracted here by the cleanest beaches, active nightlife and excellent climate.
Step 7
The Dodecanese archipelago is located along the Turkish coast. It includes one of the most interesting and beautiful places in Greece - the island of Rhodes, washed by two seas at once: the Mediterranean and the Aegean. This corner is one of the sunniest in Europe (over 310 clear days a year). Rhodes is attractive both from the natural and from the historical point of view. The mountainous terrain flows smoothly into beautiful beaches with soft sand, medieval castles are replaced by Byzantine churches.
Step 8
The second popular island of the Dodecanese archipelago is Kos. It has a very pleasant climate, many freshwater springs and greenery. That is why Kos is popularly called the "floating garden". In addition to nature and beaches, the island is interesting for its Venetian castles, Byzantine buildings, ancient Roman and Hellenistic ruins.
