The city of Marmaris, located on the southwestern coast of Turkey, is the closest place from which you can get to the Greek Rhodes by sea. It is an island that attracts tourists with its ancient history, beautiful beaches and magnificent landscapes.
Usually for tourists vacationing in Turkey and wishing to visit Greece, a Greek visa is required, unless, of course, they have a multiple-entry visa to enter the Schengen countries. But in connection with the crisis in the European Union, which largely affected Greece and even led to unrest within the country, the flow of tourists from Europe wishing to visit it has noticeably decreased. In order to return the attractiveness of Greece as a tourist center, the European Union, as an experiment, allowed to provide the opportunity for tourists from Russia to visit the territory of Greece without a visa. However, while this period is limited to the period from July 7 to September 30, 2012.
This opportunity is provided to those tourists - citizens of the Russian Federation who are vacationing in Turkish resorts. Only they will be able to visit the Greek islands located in close proximity to the coast of Turkey, and they will not need a visa for this. It should be noted that they will be able to stay there without a visa only for 24 hours, after which they will need to leave Greece. The Greek authorities will control their presence on the territory of the country according to the stamp that is put in the passport, and in which the date and time of crossing the border will be indicated.
This option of traveling to Greece is especially interesting for those Russians who are vacationing on the Aegean Sea. Now from Marmaris to get to Rhodes without a visa has become quite possible. The islands of Kos, Samos, Lesvos and Chios are also open to visit. In addition, Turkey has introduced a new procedure that allows foreigners vacationing on its territory to obtain a single-entry visa, which will extend their stay on the Greek islands listed above for up to 15 days.
A two-week visa will be issued at the port of Miramis upon arrival and will cost 35 euros. A visa-free trip to Greece for a day will not cost anything for tourists. To obtain a permit and a multi-day visa, you only need a questionnaire and 2 photographs, you can get them no later than in 4 days. Greek Consul in Turkey Ioanis Plotas assured tour operators that a two-week visa will soon allow tourists not to be limited to visiting only the islands, with it it will be possible to travel within the entire territory of Greece.
