Vologda is one of the most beautiful northern cities. The famous Kremlin and St. Sophia Cathedral, a magnificent collection of Old Russian paintings in the local museum of local lore, unique stone and wooden architecture, the fantastic beauty of the Varllaam Khutynsky Cathedral, the house of Peter the Great, wonderful views from the Cathedral Hill - in a word, there is something to see. You can get to Vologda by rail or road.
Instructions
Step 1
To get to Vologda from Moscow, you first need to get to the Yaroslavsky railway station. It is located next to the Komsomolskaya metro station, on the circular line. Three trains run directly to Vologda. But others are suitable for you, going in a northern direction - to Kotlas, Arkhangelsk, Labytnangi, Severdvinsk, Sosnogorsk, Vorkuta or Cherepovets. They all go through Yaroslavl and Vologda. Travel time to the station you need is about eight hours. Accordingly, direct trains can be reached to Vologda from all of the above stations.
Step 2
If you want to get to Vologda from St. Petersburg, you need to come to the Ladozhsky railway station. Next to it is the Ladozhskaya metro station, almost at the end of the yellow line. A direct train leaves from this station in the direction of Vologda, and several more pass through Vologda. Trains to Arkhangelsk, Sharya, Kotlas, Tyumen, Yekaterinburg are suitable for you, as well as several international trains to Karaganda, Almaty and Beijing.
Step 3
Several bus routes connect Vologda with the centers of neighboring regions. For example, you can get by bus from Ivanovo and Veliky Novgorod, as well as Petrozavodsk.
Step 4
Unfortunately, there are no flights to Vologda now. The airport, which was once very busy and connected this regional center with many cities in Russia, is practically not working today. But there is an airport in Cherepovets. This large industrial center is also one of the regional centers of the Vologda region. It is there that planes arrive from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Anapa Murmansk, as well as Minsk and Helsinki.
Step 5
It is best to take a taxi from Cherepovets airport to the city, and then change to a suburban train that will take you to Vologda in 2 hours. A suburban bus runs about the same (or even faster). A long-distance train going north or northeast will take you from Cherepovets to the regional center. It can be a train from St. Petersburg to Vologda, Arkhangelsk, Chelyabinsk, Beijing, etc.
Step 6
As for water transport, once so popular in this region, now it is almost nonexistent. There are only cruises on the northern rivers left. But you can also make a river trip from Moscow. True, the way to Vologda will take a lot of time in this case.
