Barbados is a fabulous island where people go in search of white beaches, unique tropical nature and the opportunity to swim in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Once Barbados was a colony of Great Britain and still retains its second name - "Little England".
Barbados has a well-developed infrastructure, but at the same time, it has preserved protected areas with corners of untouched nature and unique plants and animals.
In terms of its size, Barbados cannot be called a large island - only 430 square kilometers. But the small area does not mean that Barbados will not be able to offer its guests entertainment for all tastes. Warm sea, golden beaches, numerous attractions and ideal weather for relaxation - despite the large amount of rainfall, rains in Barbados end as suddenly as they begin, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the bright sun again.
Until the 16th century, the island was not inhabited. Settlers appeared on it after its discovery by an English navigator. The first inhabitants of the island were black slaves, whose descendants constitute the largest part of the population of modern Barbados.
Interesting is the capital of Barbados - Bridgetown. It is a striking combination of modernity and colonial era buildings. Narrow streets, old buildings, historical monuments and at the same time modern shopping centers. Walking around the city, you can unexpectedly get to Trafalgar Square, almost the same as in London. In addition, the city has cathedrals, theaters, and the Royal Park, in which the baobab grows, which is more than 1000 years old. The Houses of Parliament, built in the Gothic style, will also be interesting to see. Another highlight of the city is the pink and white synagogue.
You can admire the beauty of nature on the east coast. It is here that Andromeda Botanic Gardens is located - a national park, as well as the picturesque Hackleton's Cliff.
Wildlife can be seen on the north coast in a special reserve (Wildlife Sanctuary). Deer, otters, raccoons, green monkeys, caimans, tropical birds - this is just a small list of representatives of the local fauna.
The caves of Barbados are also breathtaking; some of them are more than 20 thousand years old. In the caves you can see not only stalactites and stalagmites, but also lakes and waterfalls with crystal clear water.
In order to enjoy the white beaches and feel like the hero of the Bounty advertisement, you need to visit the western or southern coasts. This is where the most beautiful coral sand beaches are located. The beaches of Barbados are famous not only for their natural beauty, striking the imagination, but also for magnificent hotels - from small and cozy to luxurious luxury villas.
The underwater world of Barbados is obscenely rich. Diving here is a favorite pastime - in addition to the beauty of the depths of the sea, you can see wrecks.
Surf lovers also do not leave Barbados without attention, especially in the period November-June - at this time the winds allow you to be on the waves almost all day.
When it comes to shopping, there is nothing better than Bridgetown in Barbados. Moreover, Barbados is a duty-free zone. One of the souvenirs that must be brought without fail is the local rum, produced according to a recipe that has been preserved since the 17th century.
