Features of replacing a passport upon expiration
The replacement of the old-style passport and the new generation passport after the expiration of the validity period occurs according to the same scenario as during the very first issue. Unlike the case when you come to the FMS department with an unexpired validity period, and the document is seized by the employees of the migration service - the expired passport is left in your hands.
"An expired passport is not withdrawn." Federal Law "On the procedure for leaving the Russian Federation and entering the Russian Federation", part 3, article 11.
The period for issuing a passport when replacing is also 30 days from the date of application. The time of registration may be affected by the time of year when you are going to change your passport. In the high season, you need to be prepared that you are not the only one who remembered about changing the passport. It is possible that the day of issue may be postponed due to the workload of the FMS employees. In low season, it is possible to get a passport a week and a half earlier.

- application form, in duplicate;
- internal passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation;
- receipt of payment of the state duty;
- two matte black-and-white or color photographs, size 3, 5 x 4, 5 cm;
- military ID with marks about the end of military service by conscription or marks: "not fit for military service", "limited fit for military service";
- expired foreign passport, which is provided to the FMS for viewing and making a copy;
- work book, an extract from the work book for the last 10 years.

You can fill out an application form for an old-style passport by hand, but without corrections. For a biometric passport, the questionnaire should be filled in in capital letters in a special PDF file. The questionnaire can be downloaded from the FMS website.
