Volgograd is a hero city located in the southeast of the European part of Russia, in the lower reaches of the great Volga River. This wonderful city has many interesting sights, which are mainly associated with the history of the Great Patriotic War.
The main attraction of Volgograd is Mamaev Kurgan - this is a place of worship for the feats of the heroic defenders of the Fatherland. During the Battle of Stalingrad, the whole earth was strewn with dead soldiers and exploded shells. The central sculpture of Mamaev Kurgan is the Motherland Calls, which is one of the seven wonders of Russia.
The high relief "Memory of Generations" depicts people walking with banners and wreaths to the top of the mound to honor the memory of the fallen heroes. On the square at the very entrance there are twelve niches made of granite, they represent the following hero cities: Smolensk, Sevastopol, Murmansk, Novorossiysk, Odessa, Leningrad, Minsk, Tula, Kiev, Fortress-Brest, Kerch and Moscow. There is a sculpture of a brave soldier coming out of the river to defend the Motherland on the square of those who stood to death.
Climbing the granite stairs, you will hear war songs and reports from the information bureau, which immerse you in the atmosphere of that difficult time. The ruined walls symbolize the oath of the defenders of Stalingrad. In the center is the "Hall of Military Glory", where the names of the defenders are immortalized, and there is also a monument - a torch with an eternal flame that will never go out and will burn in honor and memory of the fallen soldiers. Not far from the grieving mother, who is holding the deceased warrior in her arms, is the "Lake of Tears" pool.
Visit the Museum "Battle of Stalingrad", which was opened in 1985 and is one of the main attractions of Volgograd. This panorama conveys the courage and strength of the defenders fighting for their homeland. The exposition of the museum contains several thousand exhibits revealing the history of the Battle of Stalingrad: awards, documents, personal belongings of the commanders and defenders of the city, weapons.
