Due to the large number of places affected by frequent natural disasters, the leadership of Istanbul has decided to build a new city within the capital, which is planned to accommodate about a million people.
According to the calculations of Turkish specialists, about 50% of buildings located within the boundaries of Istanbul are in a zone of potential danger to the population. That is why, within the framework of the capital of Turkey, another city will be built, designed for half a million people. Gradually, the number of residents is planned to be increased to a million.
Construction will begin in the Kayashehir region and will last about three years, but by the end of 2013 the first residents will be able to settle in the new city. According to the Minister of Urban Planning of Turkey Erdogan Bayraktar, the city will be built according to the most modern standards of urban planning. It is assumed that in addition to residential buildings, shops, schools, hospitals, transport infrastructure and even several business centers will be created in the city.
Bayraktar also said that by 2016 about a million people will have to live in this city, who will be resettled from the potentially life-threatening areas of Istanbul. These areas will be transformed taking into account possible cataclysms, and only then people will be able to return there, if they so wish.
Construction is planned to be carried out quickly, since every year due to various natural disasters in Istanbul, up to two hundred people die. The site for the construction on the European side of Kayashehir has already been selected and the first works have begun. However, on the Asian side of the region, Turkish surveyors are still unable to decide on a suitable site for the construction.
Especially for tourists in the new city, it is planned to build three hotels at once, which will be able to accommodate everyone who wants to relax, and it is also planned to create an infrastructure for recreation (park, beach, etc.). According to preliminary calculations, the construction of a new city and the resettlement of the districts of the old one can cost $ 2 billion.
