Greece is a wonderful country with a lot of interesting historical monuments and beautiful natural sites. The long coastline with many different beaches, warm climate, hospitality of local residents, very healthy and delicious cuisine - all this makes Greece extremely popular among foreign visitors. The flow of Russians wishing to visit this country is growing from year to year. But what if there is a child in the family (especially a little one), will he be able to have a good rest with him in Greece?
How to choose the right place and time for families with children
Having a child will not at all interfere with the parents' good, full-fledged rest in Greece and will not spoil the impressions of this wonderful country. It is only necessary to take into account several important circumstances in advance.
Firstly, you'd better choose the option of a beach holiday, preferably with a sandy beach, where a gentle entry into the water - if the child is small or does not know how to swim well. Most of these beaches are on the Peloponnesian Peninsula, in Halkidiki. There are such beaches on the popular islands of Crete, Corfu, Rhodes. Read hotel reviews on different forums in advance, look at the photos, ask your friends.
Secondly, keep in mind that in budget Greek hotels the food is good, tasty and satisfying, but most often they serve either dishes of the Greek national cuisine, or those familiar to many Western European countries. There simply won't be soups, milk porridges and many other dishes familiar to residents of central Russia. Therefore, if the child is picky in food and cannot do without the same soups and cereals, either buy vouchers to an expensive hotel (best of all, the one where tourists from Russia often stay), or rent the so-called apartments, that is, a separate apartment with kitchen and utensils where you can cook food from purchased products. Grocery stores, supermarkets and markets in Greece are literally at every turn.
Third, choose the right time to rest. From the second half of June to mid-September, the weather is very hot there, and the ultraviolet light is extremely strong. In order not to risk the child's health (and your own too), it is better to go to this country either at the very end of May / early June, when the water is already warm enough, but there is still no sweltering heat, or at the end of September / early October. And, of course, hats and sunscreens should not be forgotten!
Is it possible to go on excursions with a child
Greece, as already mentioned, is replete with interesting sights. You can buy an excursion tour either in a travel agency, of which there are many, or from a hotel guide (this will cost significantly more). But keep in mind that the road to many objects goes either along the sea or along the mountains, where there will be winding sections (serpentines). If the child gets tired quickly or if he gets seasick on the road, it is better to refrain from such trips, or choose excursions that are more suitable for the baby.
